Guest guest
Dear Farmworker Health Colleagues, As farmworker health advocates, we know that outreach is essential in order to increase access to health care for migrant and seasonal farmworkers. However, outreach activities are often limited due to funding and staffing considerations. Outreach programs across the country are reaching farmworkers in their communities in unique ways that maximize available resources and recognize farmworkers’ unique barriers to health care. For example, An outreach program in the Southeast makes arrangements with a local grower to attach information about the clinic’s activities to farmworkers’ pay stubs. A health center in the Midwest has implemented several strategies to employ and retain bilingual nurses. Retention strategies include alternative compensation methods such as diversifying work tasks and increasing flexibility in work schedules. An outreach program in the West, in partnership with the local Housing Authority, has established its main office in the area’s largest labor camp. We want to share your successful practices with your farmworker health colleagues! Farmworker Health Services, Inc., is currently accepting submissions for our 2006 Innovative Outreach Practices Report. All 330(g) grantees are eligible to submit an innovative outreach practice. In addition, organizations that deliver health services to farmworkers in local communities will be considered for the Sister Cecilia B. Abhold Award in their migrant stream. Guest guest
Hello , Just read your outline, just wanted to also mention that outreach in health care to Hispanic farm workers is limited due to racially motivated decisions. Limited funding is not always the reason because it is not done even when funds are fully available. Thank you, Rene Quintana ALMA Del Norte -----Original Message----- From: [mailto: ]On Behalf Of Stoimenoff Sent: Wednesday, September 14, 2005 9:15 AM To: Subject: [ ] How Does Your Program Reach Farmworkers?
