Guest guest
thanks for the info .I will look on the website for a doctor. how do yu know if the kids have a high level of metals ? are there any symptoms? what do they do during this therapy? Is it meds or diet ? I have a son with pdd-nos who is on the diet and I believe it has helped him but i would like to know if there are other things out there that could further his progress. He is in a aba program and goes to a special preschool but i still believe there is more I can do tammy
Guest guest
Some of our kids have high levels of heavy metals in their body, chealation is the process to remove them, and many kids have made remarkable improvments after the process is done. A DAN doctor is one who has attended the defeat Autism now conferences and is very familar with the diet and recent treatments to Autism, most reg doctors are not familiar with such therapys such as treating underlyling yeast problem. Ther should be a list of DAN drs on the www.gfcfdiet.com site. Hope I helped, Re: Chelation and diet > can someome plase tell me whaat is chelation? i keep hearing about it on the > website but i cant find anything that explains it? can anyone also tell me > the advantages of a dan ped? and where is there a list of them ? thanks > feeling very uninformed. > tammy > > >
Guest guest
The symptoms of cumulative mercury poisoning in children are, basically, the symptoms of autism. See the post to this list today on US News & the mercury lawsuit for some info. A lab tests hair samples for toxic levels of heavy metals. It's not a straight-forward, positive-negative sort of test, so parents need to research and be prepared to explain matters to the docs. Our doc personally finds the tests so variable that he chelates firsts, then tests the urine to see what's coming out. Chelation involves a schedule of meds and supplements - chelation medication several times a day for several days, then a period of " off " days during which the body rests and receives a lot of supplements, especially essential minerals. GFCF kids are usually kept on the diet during the process. There are a lot of quirks to the process. Some kids regress at some point. Sometimes no metals are excreted for a couple of rounds, then the chelation produces results again - if the doctor doesn't halt the treatment. Some people have increased problems with allergies, seizures, " colds " , etc. So it really pays to be well informed and/or work with an experienced doctor or alternative practitioner. A couple of months ago there was a post to this list about 503 ASD kids tested for an enzyme (or protein?) called MT that naturally chelates these toxins. 499 kids didn't have it. Whether missing from birth (thus predisposing our kids to ASD), or suppressed b/c of the mercury, is not known at this time. But IMHO the study indicates that we need to take a look at whether heavy metal poisoning is an issue for our kids. ....how do yu know if the kids have a high level of metals ? are there any symptoms? what do they do during this therapy? Is it meds or diet ? I have a son with pdd-nos who is on the diet and I believe it has helped him but i would like to know if there are other things out there that could further his progress. Guest guest
He was 9 1/2 when we started. We had done the usual blood tests - CBC, IgE, IgG, some metabolism & parasite tests through Great Plains. We didn't do all the testing that's now recommended before chelation b/c (1) we didn't know about it; and (2) Ian had been on supplements, a rotation diet & gfcf for 5 months & doing very well - very healthy compared to his pre-gfcf status. Also, no history of seizures. > , > Would you mind telling me how old your son is? Guest guest
They genearally check for levels of metal by doing a test on the hair, there are other methods of testing though. The therapy is a med therapy to pull the heavy metals out of the body so it can be excreted. The symptoms of heavy metal poisoning are strikinigly similar to the symptoms of autism. There is a web link to this whole topic but I forgot where-Anyone?
