Guest guest
My son is almost done doing his 3 month stint in the dbb 23/7. He has not had a problem with the shoes coming off since the beginning but now he has gotten them off 3 or 4 times in the last 2 days. His foot doesn't look like it is relapsing. The only difference that I notice is that he is able to untie the laces....frequently. He is a very curious 5 month old that loves to tug on those laces. No matter how many times I knot them he gets them untied. I don't know what to do. Plus he gets out of them at daycare and they leave them off until my husband picks him up. I am not so concerned since he has been in the shoes the full 3 months but still I am a little concerned. Any suggestions? Oh, the straps aren't that stretched out and I can't make them any tighter. By the way, he wears the markells. Thanks, Keri Jordan (ha...you think you are gonna keep me in these things for 4 years)
Guest guest
Keri, I wonder if they're all of a sudden uncomfortable for him to wear? Has he grown much in the last 3 months? Perhaps the shoes have become too small or the bar is too narrow. Do you have the adjustable bar? You can check the width quickly by holding it up to his shoulders to see that the shoes are about the same distance apart as the width of his shoulders. There is a link about this at 's Ponseti Links site here: http://pages.ivillage.com/ponseti_links/id9.html ...just scroll down a bit to see the pictures. Hope this helps, Daiga > My son is almost done doing his 3 month stint in the dbb 23/7. Guest guest
Thanks, Daiga. I will check the width tonight when I get home. He has grown alot. He's already doubled his birth weight. His shoes don't look too small and he isn't fussing or acting uncomfortable. He just keeps getting out of his shoes. He is not due to go back to the Ortho until Feb 7 but we may have to move up that date if this becomes an ongoing problem. keri > > My son is almost done doing his 3 month stint in the dbb 23/7. Guest guest
Punch another hole closer to the base of the strap and see if that helps. Also... I think the general consensus here for those lace untiers... duct tape LOL! Kori At 03:12 PM 1/19/2005, you wrote: >My son is almost done doing his 3 month stint in the dbb 23/7. Guest guest
Thanks, Kori. The strap isn't on the tightest setting, I just can't physically get it any tighter. It has been on the same setting for the last 3 months, maybe the strap is stretching a little bit and I just don't realize it. As for the duct tape, I agree lol. I also plan on using it on my 2 year old's potty mouth. I can't imagine where he is learning the words that he is saying (maybe he's listening to mommy curse while she tries to adjust his younger brothers dbb!!) ARGH why do kids have to be so smart?? Guest guest
One thing that I forgot to mention (Owen went through the fasination of untying the shoes too) is to knot the ends of the laces...at least it'll save you from having to rethread them into the eye holes. I found that triple knotting worked for us...Owen was/is somehow able to get the double knots out but has yet to master the triple knot! Guest guest
LOL - I did use the duct tape (out of frustration and exhaustion) one night. On this particular night I had gone in 3 times after I had put him to bed to find him standing in his crib with only one foot in his FAB. I gave it one more try but when I checked on him a 1/2 hour later, he was sound asleep and again, had gotten one foot out of his shoe! I taped it up just so that I could go to bed without worrying about him taking it off again. LOL! After that though, I started triple knotting and that seemed to do the trick. Guest guest
Those straps do stretch. Hey, tell your kid those are " Daddy Words " and he can't say them until he's a daddy! haha, believe it or not mom said that to my boy when he was little and it worked. s. Guest guest
My son used to do this. It was amusing and at the same time frustrating to silently watch him pull those laces and voila! the shoe is untied and coming off. I double knotted (which works for us) and then I roll his socks over the laces so he can't see them. So far after a year this has worked. I haven't read the other posts, but I would also take issue with the daycare center not putting his shoes back on. Is this most of the day? SOmeone there needs to be trained to put them back on rather than shy away from them because they are unfamiliar. THey wouldn't not give a child medication if he/ she needed it just because they didn't want it; this is just as necessary, in my opinion! Although I know he wears them less now, he still needs to and I think they should enforce it when you're not there; otherwise it just undermines your efforts. You might try asking at the shoe store where you got them - they might be able to rig up a big velcro strap or something over the laces/strap so your little MacGyver isn't as successful. : ) 11.23.03 > My son is almost done doing his 3 month stint in the dbb 23/7. Guest guest
The sock idea is a good one, . Between that and the duct tape - lol- I think we will keep those buggers on. As for the daycare issue, I haven't made an issue of it only because my kids are only there 3 hours a day. So if the shoe comes off it isn't for very long. Also, the people that are there when I drop my kids off are not the same as the ones that are there when my dh picks the kids up. Yesterday was a rare day in that I dropped my kids off early because I had a doctor's appointment so they were there for 6 hours. I don't know when the shoe came off though. Guest guest
I see! I thought maybe he was there all day and kicked them off in the morning and they just left them off. > > My son is almost done doing his 3 month stint in the dbb 23/7.
