Guest guest
Hey ee, Don't feel bad, Kaitlin is in the 5th % too. When I tell people (aka strangers in the store who ask) how old she is, the reply is always the same, " She is so small. " A waitress actually had the nerve to ask if she was a premie (BTW, she was 3 months old at the time)....how insulting when she was born 7 pounds 10 ounces. Everyone always thinks heavy babies are healthier than smaller ones...funny how the opposite is healthy for adults??? As for picky eaters??? I dunno...I would like to know the answer to that one too. Kaitlin refuses baby food and almost anything else other than cheerios 90% of the time....I am going to have my hands full with her when she gets older...I can already tell. Guest guest
Oh ee!! If you do find a cure for finicky eaters, I need in on it!! My four (almost 5) year old is very particular about his food. Only if he is being bribed will he eat something new. Other than that, it is hot dogs, burgers, spagetti and pizza. Occasionally he will eat a corn dog but that is about it. BTW, he is pretty tiny too, only 36 pounds!! Tina Dylan 3-21-00 same size as the neighbor's 3 year old!! Guest guest
My son has always been on the 85th centile which means that there are 85 out of a 100 babies smaller than him and they told me this every single time - they make you feel so bad like 'what are you feeding him?' At the time he was only on breastmilk I always felt that perhaps I should be starving him to bring his weight down - like that would happen. In the beginning they say feed on demand so I did......... He is quite fussy though I would say. We went to Euro disney for New Year and all they had there was sandwiches and fast food, of which he will eat neither (probably because he is not used to it) I have always prepared my own food for him with loads of veg etc, I think he survived the week on Yoghurt and bananas. He is now about 26/28 lb and is 21 months....... so I think that is the 75th centile so only 75 babies smaller now then Rach Steve & Connor -- Re: Everett's check up Hey ee, Don't feel bad, Kaitlin is in the 5th % too. Guest guest
Can't help with the finicky eaters but my daughter , who is 3, has been in the fifth percentile since birth. People all the time are asking me how old she is because she talks very well and they think she is much younger. She actually eats fairly well although not a lot of anything / She can, however, put away a pretty large plate of spaghetti. Jenni Number23 wrote: >HI all, >Everett had a well baby check up today. Guest guest
My son doesn't eat anything but chicken, fruit, mac & cheese and hot dogs. Actually he will eat PB & J too. But lately, no jelly!! Kids are so funny! They change their mind everytime the wind blows. One day they like it, the next day they don't. Austin is 3, barely eats, and is 90% in height. People think he is 4 and he just turned 3 in December! However, he is a rail! As my pediatrician always tells me, they will eat when they are hungary. I am also the type of mom that will not make a separate meal for my child. If he doesn't want to eat what my DH has prepared for dinner, then he will be hungary. Someday, he will eat. Before you know it, they will be eating us out of the house and home when they are teenagers! Shook Retail Operations Manager/Baking Instructor Vie de France Yamazaki, Inc. 2070 Chain Bridge Rd. Guest guest
I am so glad you all are on this subject. I have been trying to switch Zoe over to regular food for a while now. Aren't kids supposed to put everything in their mouth???! Once she gets in the high chair she won't put anything in it. Babyfood only. 11 months old this Saturday and nothing but babyfood. I think we are headed down a difficult path. She was 8 lbs 9 oz when born and at 9 mos 16lbs 5 oz. She was around the 10th %ile. Rachael was always the 90th and I loved it! Maybe they work off all of their extra calories lugging that bar around. Guest guest
My Daughter is below the 5% on size and she's 27 months old, she also eats a lot. One way we get her to try new food is by showing her how much we like it and letting her feed us for a little bit then we feed it to her or she feeds it to herself. Whenever her favorite person (grandpa) is eating something she has to eat it whatever it is so that could be something you could try. Bribery works sometimes too. Anyway good luck with getting him to eat. Holly > HI all, > Everett had a well baby check up today. He is in the FIFTH % on size! LOL! Haven't I kept telling you all he was tiny!?!?! You know those " 8 years or 80 lbs " seatbelt laws? She will be in a booster seat until she is 18 I swear! She is 7.5 now and weighs in around 45 lbs. She is also very short. I swear sometimes that her father is my husband, not my ex, because my husband is 5' 5 " and about 130 sopping wet, whereas her father is 6' 4 " and around 230 lbs! Guest guest
LOL I know! THe funny thing is, she isnt really bony. She is very compact and muscular - she figure skates and can do pull-ups and even hanging-upside-down sit ups! - but most of her height (what little there is LOL) is in her legs. She has very long legs in comparison to her height and as a result doesnt even weigh as much as other children the same height! Really, tho, all my kids are on the slim side. My 3.5 year old DD is about 24 lbs and quite petite. Kai actually weighs the same as her but is a half-head shorter! And even Kai at 24 mo and 24 lbs is a bit of a light-weight. Guest guest
You are not going to believe this, but all of this talk made me weigh Zoe on my home baby scale last night and it said she was the same as she was 2 months ago. I freaked. Granted she was ill last week, but gain nothing from 9-11 months????!!!!! I went to the dr. and weighed her there for accuracy. She is 17 lbs 3 oz, up from 16 lbs 5 oz on Nov 24th. Her height is up to 27 3/4 " . I was so upset. Went to the receptionist, between sobs said that I thought we should see a dr., Of course Zoe is smiling. I think I am the one who needed the dr. He checked her out and said she is just fine. She is very active and naps very little during the day. I wonder if she works off extra calories that way . . . and possilbly lugging the bar around for 5 waking hours? It is so hard to have a 15% baby after Rachael was around 85% when she was this age. Anyway, explained how and what she consumes and the dr. said there is nothing wrong with it. He was awesome and made me feel better after that. I don't go to baby boards with Zoe like I did with Rachael because i come here instead. So glad this discussion is going on!!! Guest guest
Wow! All this talk about what percentile the kids are in...I don't even know. I have to admit as long as he's healthy, happy and gaining a bit, I really havent' cared what percentile he's in. My first one ate everything in sight, he's 3 1/2 year old and weighs a solid 39 pounds. He's all muscle. My second, not even baby food. He's 16 months and never had more than two bites that I tricked him into taking. He went right to solids at 11 months and is a very picky eater. He also only weighs 20 pounds. But he's healthy, happy and growing a bit, so I'm not concerned, I figure he's not going to weigh a whole lot because he doesn't have any muscle yet at least not any in his legs. The doctors haven't said anything about his weight so why should I be worried? Ifigure if it's a concern or a red flag they will bring it up as that's something we always go over at check ups with the doc himself is weight and height. We have an excellent pediatrician who has not hesitated to say when he thinks something should be checked out and I trust that. Especially when he is gaining a bit. And not in any other way fussy. What is the percentile anyways except a way to compare your child with other kids. Maybe I'm nuts, but as long as the doctors say he's right on track I could care less. Guest guest
I didn't realize was the same size as Everett, too. I knew they were the same age, but they even weigh almost the same. And both picky eaters! How funny! Do you give a vitimin supplement? I found a liquid infant vitimin at Walmart I sneak in to his juice or oatmeal (tastes terrible alone!). The pharmacists was very firm not to give a baby a " children's chewable " - before he's at least 2 years old. I noticed a difference in Evy's complexion color when I started the vitimins though - a more rosey complexion, I think he must have been a little deficient in some things. shaw
Guest guest
no, I don't do a vitamin supplement. Juice or oatmeal? What are those? hehe! He loves the veggie and fruit wheel thingys by Gerber and broccoli, chicken, hot dogs (which are just jam packed with nutrition, LOL!!) and his milk and that's it. Oh, and eggs. fruit he gets from those wheel things and sometimes mandarin oranges, otherwise he wont' touch the stuff. yeah, he's a little guy. very long, but very little. I was very concerned about him not eating baby food, but talked to my ped, and they really don't have to be on anything other than formula for the first year. It was just so foreign to me as ate baby food at 3 months and moved to picking his own food up, eating anything I placed in front of him at 7 months. Course, he had his first tooth at 3 months too and a full mouth by 7 months. didn't cut his first tooth until we were in Iowa at 10 months!!! they are so totally different, it used to bother me because I didn't know they could be that different, but now...whatever, he's healthy! LOL!! yeah, there is too much iron in the chewables for a baby to have. loves them and gets so excited though! It's kinda funny, I can bribe my kid with a vitamin...cool! LOL > I didn't realize was the same size as Everett, too. I noticed a difference in Evy's complexion color when I started the vitimins though - a more rosey complexion, I think he must have been a little deficient in some things. > > shaw > > > >
Guest guest
is the same way, he begs for his vitamins. But with all the added pressure is under a vit. supp. might be good for him. Stress takes a lot out of a body. s.
Guest guest
s under stress?? LOL Actually, between the two of us, I think I need to start taking my vitamins again more than him...he is such an amazing little guy. He is so funny and so happy and so up all the time, except when we stretch his feet! What a joy he is! (most days!) LOL thanks for the tip, I will look into it. Not quite sure how I would get it in him, we don't do juice around here, just milk and he won't eat anything from a spoon yet. grrr. what a stinker!! it's funny too, you could put a glass plate infront of him and he would not touch it, just eat the food off of it, even if you let him sit there with it in front. ? the food is on the walls, plate is flung and you're picking up pieces from the floor. Amazing, two kids so completely different! Oh by the by, jasons hair seems to be getting a touch red. hahahah! That schwan man sure has strong genes! hehehe! hubby and I both olive type skin, dark brown hair, brown eyes. , blond with blue eyes and jason, auburn with brown. So very different!!!! Makes me want another to see if we will get any that look like us or not! LOL > is the same way, he begs for his vitamins. But with all the added pressure is under a vit. supp. might be good for him. Guest guest
and Everett don't look like brother's either. But is identical to me, Evy identical to Chriss. Seeing them in the bath tub together I think, Wow - are you two related? was (is) a wonderful eater like your . Everett throws his plates, his food, his cup, we're starting to crack down on that though. He is trying to spoon feed himself now days though - ugh. Fortunately we have a canine disposal system sitting at the bottom of his high chair. s.
Guest guest
here here!!! That canine disposal is the state of the art system and never fails, not even once! yeah, we're cracking down on it too... he also likes to sit in his chair with the shoes with the bar and kick, he'll kick up to the bottom of the tray and then down to the chair legs thump thump thump thump...omg it drives me nuts!!!!! looks like grandpa in colorado, and I still haven't figured out , course with his chubby cheeks and my ever widening ones...there's getting to be a bit of a resemblance!
