My daughter relapsed and was in casts (by Dr. P) from mid December through this

Tuesday. Then it was back to her shoes. Before the casts she was out

of the shoes 10 hours a day or so and she was doing all of the normal sitting

type things and starting to pull up and such. With those wonderful, backward

looking casts she still crawled like there was no tomorrow but of course she

couldn't pull up (although she tried) and she couldn't sit so she did a lot of

tummy things. Since the shoes are back she's very fussy (Yes we KNOW she's

fully corrected) and I think it's because he's set them at an 80 degree angle to

help fix the problem that caused the relapse. Dr. P wants her to learn to walk

'duck footed' or whatever you want to call it and thinks that we may need to

wear the shoes more than normal until she's 20 - 24 months when her bones are

set. Oh joy. Anyway, now she won't sit and she won't kneel. She won't sit up

on her own either to reach for things, etc. I know it's only been a day or two

but she adjusted more easily before. Any hints on what to do? At least she's

crawling. I guess I should be happy with that but I hate to see her so fussy.

She may be frustrated with trying to move around right now, causing

the fussiness?? I would think her last cast was at 80 degrees if

that's what her shoes are at, so that should not be causing

discomfort. Zoe recently had her bar length adjusted and had trouble

going from crawling to sitting, etc. I helped her get the bar heaved

over and she is doing OK now. Hopefully she is just getting adjusted.

I'm so glad first that she's back in the shoes now. still won't

put his feet flat or put pressure on them. He is just now starting to

pull up and he's been out of the casts for almost 3 weeks now. the

second time coming out of casts it's taking him a lot longer to get

back to where he was before. I don't know if this helps any, but we

are there with ya! Hang in there and congrats on having her feet

fully corrected!! That's awesome.

I'm sure you understand how nice it is to look at her feet and see them almost

completely normal! LOL Of course they stick out at a 80 degree angle but I'll

take it!

It's good to know there is someone else who experienced this. My hubby thinks

that she's just uncomfortable having her feet turned out that far but she didn't

mind the casts at all and they were even further so I think we're dealing with

something else. Ever onward!

Louisa,

She waves that bar around like it's a ninja weapon! LOL After those casts this

is a pip. But she seems to favor one foot. I'm worried about that...

I think I read yesterday or the day before about someone using water

therapy for they baby. Found it # 30273. It sounds like that might

be helpful. Also it could be that her fussiness comes from her feet

being sensitive after being in casts. The boppy pillow (if you have

one) would probalby help her learn to sit. I loved mine.

Thanks . Today she's better - didn't fuss at all when I changed her but of

course her shoes were on. What is it about those things that gives them

comfort? LOL

She's back to remembering how to sit up with them on so she's getting there

again. However she won't reach beyond her immediate space so we'll have to work

on that again.

I'm glad she has straight feet again but I wish it could be done without

casting! LOL
