ok... i did an application over the phone for dr dobbs office...

karen in the apps dept said she would talk to christina that works

with dr dobbs on grace's case and see what they thought.. and they

would either call me tomorrow or monday... i told her i really

thought i wanted a ponseti trained and she said she would talk to

them... she sounded very positive and said she thought i had valid

concerns... and said that she thought i was doing the right thing by

looking into another option and asking for a second opinion.... she

said that after she got the ok from the doctor that i could bring

grace up for a consult and they would explain the course of action

that should be taken and i could decided from there whether to take

that route or stick with my home town doctor...

so does that sound about like the conversation that any one else has

had with shriners? i am very excited about getting some resolution

to grace's problem... and a lot of relief for having some one in the

field not think i am crazy!! lol... thank you for heading me in the

direction... i'll keep you posted... has any one heard of dr rich

that works with dr dobbs? i don't think she is ponseti though..

If I were going to travel all the way there I would make sure my appt

is with Dr. Dobbs. I'm not sure who Dr. Rich is, but I'm thinking I

have a friend whose daughter might see her (not for clubfoot). When

we were first accepted to Shriner's our appt was with someone besides

Dr. Dobbs. We chose St. Louis because we knew there was a Ponseti

Dr. there. We almost saw this other doctor because I was just

researching all of this and thought if this method is that great and

one doctor is using it, surely that's what they will all be using. I

don't think that's the case though. We decided to call--I ended up

talking to (my first of many conversations with her) and we

changed our appt to see Dr. Dobbs. We had to wait a few days longer,

but I'm very glad we did. Good luck to you. I know it feels like a

roller coaster of emotions when you are trying to figure out what to

do.

> yse... dr rich is not a ponseti dr... i asked the lady on the phone

about seeing a ponseti dr and she said that she may have to switch us

and get us in with dr dobbs... but that would not be a problem... and

so then she said she would talk to christina instead of dr rich's

asst... so maybe i will hear something today... we'll see... but

thanks... i do want to get her in to see dr dobbs... keep your

fingers and toes crossed!!

,

I'm a little late to this conversation, but just wanted to add my

story. I came to this group back in September after my son was

scheduled for surgery with a non-Ponseti doctor. He was casted for a

couple months right after birth, then put in the Markell shoes with

no bar. His feet relapsed, they were never corrected to begin with,

and we went through more casts. Finally they told us three, three-

hour surgeries were our only option! We were scheduled for surgery in

four days when I found Dr. Ponseti and this group. Everyone in the

group encouraged me to find a Ponseti doctor and try that before we

went for surgery.

I'm in Maine and the closest Shriner's hospital with a Ponseti doctor

is over 4 hours away in Massachusetts. I had to wait a month to get

an appointment, by then was 11 months old. But after six casts

and a tenotomy they were able to correct his feet. He is in the dbb

23/7 and doing great. We went for a check up yesterday and they are

pleased with his feet, no relapses so far. When I look at his feet

and see the difference between now and when I first brought him to

Shriner's I am amazed and so grateful I found this group.

It has not been easy. I drove down the first time, but then called

Angel Flight and someone has flown us down and back since then. I am

a nervous flyer and I rarely have the same pilot twice, but they have

all been wonderful and very reassuring. It is a long, exhausting day

for both of us, and when we had to go weekly for casts I dreaded each

and every trip. But I wouldn't do anything differently. Now we are

only going for check ups and they are not nearly as often. It's so

much easier now. Just knowing I'm doing what's best for my son keeps

me going and I can honestly say it's been worth every scary flying

moment and exhausting day to get where we are now.

Good luck. I know you'll be relieved when you start seeing Dr. Dobbs.

Keep us posted.
