Guest guest
Hey, I know this was discussed a little bit before, and as far as I remember there was no major concerns with flying when baby is in the DBB 23/7, right? We're flying next week, and I just wanted to check again with everybody. Also, with the shoes once they're out of the DBB 23/7: Dr. P recommends a hi-top walking shoe? Is this because they have CF? I know that used to be the recommendation years ago, I had a hard time with my MIL when my first started walking because she kept telling me that's what I should get. But now they say that's not really necessary, actually the opposite because it provides too much support for their ankles & doesn't allow them to learn to balance on their own & develop strength in their ankles. So I guess my real question is, do they really need that type of shoe because they have CF, or is that just " old-school " thinking on Dr. P's part? I'm not trying to sound snotty I'm just wondering. Ava will be out of her DBB full time in another month, so I'm wondering what type of shoes to get her (or shoes at all, maybe just bare piggies is better?). Plus she'll only be 7 months, not ready to walk yet, so does that make a difference? Thanks, , mommy of: Guinevere, on, Ava 8/4/04 right CF DBB 23/
Guest guest
I flew with Zoe 2x with the bar and just left it on. One time, tThey just wanded both of us, me because I was holding her when I went through the scanner. Another time they wanted it off and I asked to see a manager and explained it takes forever to get them back on. I would rather wait around 10 minutes for a manager than take the bar off and have to put it back on in the middle of the airport. They wanded us both again and that was that. I look forward to hearing the replies on the shoes. Zoe is cruising right now and I just have some no skid canvas shoes for her. I am of the mind that no shoes helps them develop the way their body wants to, but if something is better for CF babies then I would certainly do that. Guest guest
Our ortho doc recommended the hightop shoes, too. He wrote a script but the office people said I could just go to Stride Rite. We got the " " shoe, which comes in either boy or girl style, and it has a moderate high top that still allows for flexibility. You can get on their website to see a pair (sorry, I haven't figured out how to post a link!) but they are rather expensive. Cheaper than DBB's, though! I wouldn't worry about shoes until she's really cruising, like furniture walking and stuff. They say to wait until they walk, but around here (Buffalo) the baby needs something on his feet for warmth and also while crawling around strange places. I bought the Robeez for him and those are nice for when they're in the prewalking stage. As far as flying, I wouldn't be too worried, I guess. If they give you any trouble at the airport just tell them it's a medical necessity (who would WANT to voluntarily put those things on their kid?! LOL). No different than an adult in a wheelchair or with a walker, probably. There is no way I'd take them off, too mnuch hassle! Unless the entire airport wants to endure a screaming fit (from and ME!) while I wrestle him to the ground! Guest guest
I can't help with the bar and flying question but from our talks with Dr. P he recommended high top shoes for when you actually need to use shoes & " bare piggies " for the rest of the time at home.
