This thought process, which my own ped quoted to me too, really

bothered me - so much so that I did a little digging to find out if

that was actually true. Did autism really normally show up at 18

months? Was it coincidental that the MMR was also at that time?

Well - it turns out that in the days when autism was 1 in 10,000 that

it was known from birth that there was something different about

these children. Now we have " regressive autism " that appears at

around 18 months - that is what has been on the increase these past

15 years. Regressive autism is what is responsible for the stats to

now be 1 in 250. (or 1 in 175 as the recent UK stats show)

Below I have pasted a quote from Dr. Rimland's testimony Before House

Committee on Government Reform April 6, 2000

They claim that autism naturally occurs at about 18 months, when

the MMR is routinely given, so the

association is merely coincidental and not causal. But the

onset of autism at 18 months is a recent development.

Autism starting at 18 months rose very sharply in the mid-1980s,

when the MMR vaccine came into wide use. A

coincidence? Hardly!

So - what my kid has is different from the 1 and 10,000 from years

ago. This is a new type of Autism that our peds don't understand and

are being told the party line that it " normally appears around 18

months anyway " which is what our ped told us. Dr. Rimland would know -

he's been in this field for decades - long enough to spot a trend

and to know that what we are seeing is new.

That is just my 2 cents - and research. I am not a doctor, but I can

read.

Oh, we have all heard that from the doctors. They are just covering

themselves from lawsuit. Can you imagine what would happen if (or when) they

prove the connection??

We have been gfcf and are considering Feingold. Any suggestions for

surviving the stage one?
