Guest guest
It is so very cold and so dry, my son has this chapped skin all around his mouth. I've never seen that before and didn't have it with my first, course I think it's the hugeness of those chubby cheeks of his that seem to attract moisture and chap him when we go out, but I have no idea how to help it. I tried putting lotion on it and it seemed to irritate his skin further. Any ideas?? I know this is off topic but with the wealth of information here, I thought someone might have some good ideas. Thank you so much,
Guest guest
It sounds crazy but I use Lansinoh breast ointment in the purple tube that they recommend for cracked nipples for breast feeding. It heals the chapped skin very quickly. It is also excellent for diaper rash. You can usually get it at Walmart. If you don't know what I am talking about let me know and I'll get you some more information. Jenni Wold wrote: >It is so very cold and so dry, my son has this chapped skin all around >his mouth. Guest guest
, Ever heard of something called Bag Balm? It's designed for dairy cattle but is one of my resident Cure All's in this house. It's a medicated vasiline, basicly, works wonderful on chapped skin ('s mouth gets that way where he licks his lips too much). There are various kinds of this bag balm, but it's all about the same, look at a feed store if your grocerer or walmart doesn't carry it. The little square metal can lasts for years and it's really safe stuff too, and it clears B's lips up with in a day. It's wonderful for all the little scrapes and scuffs kids get in to. s. Guest guest
thanks for the suggestion, which department would that be in? I was not a bfeeder to I'm not up on all that stuff, I wouldn't even know where to look! Thanks for the advice! > > >It is so very cold and so dry, my son has this chapped skin all around > >his mouth. Guest guest
I love that stuff!!! It's the best diaper rash ointment I've ever had. I didn't realize there was mmore than one kind...we always buy the green tin. I wasn't sure about putting that around his mouth. Thanks for the tip! I'll have to give that a try. Good on scrapes too?? Cool! The cure all right in my house. Fabulous! Thanks! > , > > Ever heard of something called Bag Balm? Guest guest
Ah! You know! The green can is actually the best kind. I dairy farmed for 16 years, lots of experience there! ha ha! Figure if they put it on a cow's nipples and milk that cow for food production, it's pretty safe stuff. s. I love that stuff!!! Cool! The cure all right in my house. Fabulous! Thanks! Guest guest
I would put vaseline when you go out. That will prevent further chapping. I have a friend that swears by cocoa butter. Guest guest
Thanks. That's kinda the same idea as the bag balm...I don't know why I didn't think of it. Vasoline can do wonders. See, the coco butter I would be concerned about putting so close to his mouth...maybe that's silly, I don't really know. It just doesn'tseem like it's a good thing to ingest and with it smelling so yummy, I can totally see him licking his chees and chin and nose, big tongue you know! LOL Quite the picture!! > It is so very cold and so dry, my son has this chapped skin all around > his mouth. Guest guest
Usually it is in the infant's department near the bottles etc where they have other breastfeeding supplies. It is in a purple tube and is actually called Lansinoh brand lanolin for breastfeeding mothers. Jenni Wold wrote: >thanks for the suggestion, which department would that be in? Guest guest
's cheeks and around his lips get all red and irritated this time of year too. I put vaseline on them each night when he goes to bed. HE HATES IT! He gets so mad, but I didn't put it on for a few days and it got hurting him. So now I just have to remind him how bad it hurts and he allows me to put it on. Pam and (8-12-01) > > It is so very cold and so dry, my son has this chapped skin all around > his mouth. Guest guest
. This response is a couple days later so you may have already found a solution. Anyway, my son has the most chapped cheeks ever! My pediatrician recommended baby eczema cream. They sell it at Target where the baby lotion is. I have used it on my sons cheeks since he was 6 months. It really works! I also use it on 's cheeks b/c they are really dry too. HTH. Guest guest
see? I hadn't thought of that either...we started the bag balm, which is something I have here at home without having to go out in this negative degree weather...it seems to be working really well. It's icky looking and I don't want to kisss him, but it seems to work! Thanks for your response. I appreciate it!! > . > This response is a couple days later so you may have already found a > solution. Anyway, my son has the most chapped cheeks ever!
