Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Ive got a daughter 9wks being treated in the UK by a recommended Ponsetti doc. Her foot is Atypical (Dr Ponsetti confirmed by email). Anyway she had trouble staying in the casts because of this. Dr Ponsetti said this was a common problem with Atypical. Anyway her foot has just slipped yet again. So had to take the cast off as she was screaming in agony. We seam get a good result just for the next cast to slip and undo some of the great correction. Feel like I will be here forever! My doctor is confident her foot will be corrected using Ponsetti, and Ive seen her foot looking good when the cast has stayed on. He also said her foot is a little trickier but not to worry. Anyway she has had 9 casts so far, 3 falling off completly and 2 slipping. My consultant said he know another Ponsetti doc who has a chart and one child ended up with 32 casts!! How many casts did your child actually have done? As I know the books and info say about 6! I just want some feed back on how long it may take. Thanks Julzd and Aurora
Guest guest
We had 15 casts with a non-Ponseti doctor before switching. Many of those slipped or fell off completely. After switching to the more skilled hands of Dr. Herzenberg we had 9 casts. Only one of these slipped. Does your doctor have you soak them off if they slip out of place? Dr. Herzenberg had told us if they slipped more than an inch to take them off as they may be causing harm and crushing the heel. Our first doctor never told us this and I think Tommy's feet actually got worse being in all those slipping casts where we couldn't even see his toes. Guest guest
It took 3 casts, plus tenotomy, plus 2 casts by Ponseti a few months later for full correction. Who is your doctor? It has been a while since I talked to Dr Ponseti, but last I did he advised me that Naomi is the highest qualified in UK to correct atypical feet. The casts should not be falling off. Yes, atypical feet can wiggle out of casts that non-atypical feet cannot; but there should be somed modifications done to prevent it. What Dr P and Dr Mosca both did with Kai, who was 9 mo old at the time, was to ben the knee to a perfect 90*, shape the heel pocket well with a definite indent at the top, and also put the casts on VERY snug. In Dr Mosca's case, he used softcasts which are able to be put on alot tighter than plaster. Angel How many Ponsetti Casts did it actually take?
