Guest guest
Sheri, I was fortunate in that my doc gave me the option for the tests, but also explained the high false positive rate. I honestly had no idea that it was an option not to have the test. I thought it was a totally standard thing. He said that only about 20% of the women in his practice have it because he does take the time to explain the false positive rates. I was relieved, and I chose not to take the test. I read in one pregnancy book some pretty good criteria as to whether to take the test or not, including both risk factors and outlook. I know that for some people, the test really provides a great sense of peace that the chance of a problem is low. For me, I already had a sense of peace about the whole pregnancy, and I knew that the stress of a negative result (or even the few weeks of waiting for follow-up test results) was not worth it. I am not a worrier by nature, so I was better off not giving myself a reason to worry. My doc also explained that if we lived in an area where we didn't have access to specialized care, it might be more important to know ahead of time that there was a problem. But at a major university medical center in Dallas, TX, there's no real need to know in advance -- they have the resources to deal with anything. Just wanted to say that while some doctors may be pushy about the test (even if they are only trying to cover their butts in this litigious society!), some are not. I was really pleased with how my doc handled it, and I felt like we were able to make the decision that was best for us. I know that the test is a really good option for many people, but not taking the test was best for me. Thanks for your perspective! Guest guest
Thank you all for your prayers. All I can do is pray and wait. I had a pretty detailed (level 2 I think) US at the hospital and they said that the baby was heathly and normal, but this was before the triple screen. I pray they are right. I will love any baby all babies are a blessing from God, I am just scared. Thanks again for all the prayers. God bless, Bunny
