Guest guest
Now wait a minute! I had the triple screen too... and they thought I might have a baby with trisinomy 18. My test came out negative, but you should consult with your doc or a maternal fetal medicine specialist about why on earth they think your baby would be a downs candidate. Also... At my level 3 U/S - the one where the high risk doctors look and come up with 101 reasons they need to be looking at you, when you probably have a healthy baby... anyway... at my level 3 u/s's they watched the baby's movement and thought because she didn't ball up or hold her hands in certain ways that that was more of a sign she didn't have it. Then later at another level 3 the doc was like... i'm not a candidate for downs or trisinomy where did that other doc get off... so I think that yes the test is not great, but with a good maternal fetal doc you will get a better answer than just an obgyn... We'll be praying for you and your little one... Siotha Induction: Apr. 8th 2004
Guest guest
I've had a few patients who's risk of Down's (according to the AFP Tetra) was high, but the baby's were fine in all of the cases except one. Any african american or asian ethnicity of the father or mother has also been shown to cause a falsely elevated risk of Down's. There are several things (indicators) they look for with the high level ultrasounds. One being the thickness of the baby's neck. The US tech's usually won't tell you what they are looking for or if anything is abnormal, they want your OB to discuss the results with you; so don't take their lack of giving you information as a bad thing. So, if you have an AFP tetra come back as high risk for Down's, try to remain as calm as possible as they can be(and often are) wrong.
