Guest guest
I'm 36 weeks today and we found out last Friday that the baby is not in the head down position. My OB is a little concerned as usually baby's are head down by this time, but she still has some time to turn on her own. He says he is going to give her a week and a half to turn on her own before we try version (did is use the correct term?) where we try to manipulate her from the outside into the head down position. He says in his experience (he has been practicing since 1970) that this works about 50% of the time, but if it does of course we have to worry about her going back into the position she is now, across me. If she doesn't flip on her own and the version doesn't work then he says he will schedule me for a c-section. I have a few questions that hopefully you guys can help me with. If I have a c-section I'm a bit concerned about where they will make the incision because of the panni I have from all the excess skin from my wls. I'm thinking if they make it in the usual place that will be under where my panni is and won't that be prone for infection? Earlier in my pregnancy, when I discovered that I had a incisional hernia from my wls my OB said that if I needed a c-section that he would have a surgeon come in and repair the hernia at the same time. I'm thinking now that I may not want that because that will keep me separated from my daughter longer than I have to with just a c-section. If you guys were in my position would you go for the hernia repair now or wait and do it at a later date? I'm kinda torn as to what would be best in this situation. Sorry this is kinda long. Any and all info you guys can share will be most appreciated. Axelrod
Guest guest
Hi , When I had my son 4 years ago I was over 300 pounds and had my lovely fat apron just as I do now after WLS....I got a staph infection because the c-section scar couldn't stay dry and heal. It was gross and disgusting. I did everything to keep it dry. I always changed my gauze and even used what the ob nurses recommended - maxi pads...nothing worked. I am afraid if I have a c-section this will happen again.....even though I am a lot lighter the skin is still there. Ugggh! Sorry my friend. I hope that baby moves into position. Guest guest
This is my first pregnancy, so I don't know exactly where they make the incision for a c-section. But as far as what I think about doing the hernia repair at the same time as the c-section, I would do it. I think I have an incisional hernia myself. There is an area at the top of my incision to the right that bulges out if I push outward on my stomach. I didn't really notice this until last week. It's very freaky looking and I am assuming that's what it is. Myself, if I were to be having a c-section I would rather they do both things at once, that way I wouldn't need to go back in the hospital for a hernia repair and be away from my baby for a couple days. A couple hours versus a couple days......a couple hours sounds better to me!! Plus, I wouldn't want to have to go back in to the hospital. Hope you don't have to go that route. Best of luck to you. Guest guest
Hey Denisa, Sorry to hear that you may need a c section, lets hope she turns. Anyways, i have a huge incisional hernia too that I dread getting repaired but I know i have to so if by any chance I need a csection I would LOVE for them to do it at the same time to get it over with. Just my thoughts, good luck with it all. God Bless, Robin, NorthEastern, NY EDD- July 27th, 2004 IT'S A BOY!!!!!! Guest guest
I had a nice panni with both my kids before WLS and had c-section but didn't have any problems. I think it does make the closing up a little more difficult on the doctor. I always tell myself I'm not the worst thing the doctor has seen or dealt with. The baby can still turn on it's own so don't lose hope. If it is meant to come out by a " C " then just try to relax and go with it. I would go ahead and get the hernia repair done if you are already in surgery. The way they have you set up for surgery you really can't hold the baby until they are done anyway. They always wanted to put mine under the warmer for a while so by the time I was sewn up and got to my room, I was able to get my baby. To be honest, I didn't feel alert enough during surgery to be with her anyway. Good Luck! Sue > I'm 36 weeks today and we found out last Friday that the baby is not in the head down position. Guest guest
Hi , My 2 yr old was transverse until about 37 weeks - so don't give up hope for that. I've had 2 c-sections - the 1st one after arrested decent & 19 hrs of labor - the second was scheduled. With both I was over 300 lbs. I have had the bikini cut for both & both times it healed well. I used a maxi pad pressed against the incision from day 1 - this is gross but all the fat held it in place. That worked really well to keep the moisture for building up & wisked away any seepage. I changed them every time I went to the bathroom - maybe 6 - 8 times per day. I would go for the hernia repair if they have to do the c-section. Are they going to be using the spinal anestisia (sp?) or after the baby is delivered will they need to switch to general anestisia? If the spinal is sufficiant - they will probably let your husband remain with you. My husband was there the whole time & he brought the baby over to me. Although I couldn't use my arms I could kiss him & seeing my husband hold him. Any missed moment of birth bonding was soon made up as I didn't put them down for abotu 12 hours. After the 1st time I touched them. Good luck! > I'm 36 weeks today and we found out last Friday that the baby is not in the head down position. Guest guest
I have never had a c-section, but thought I would throw this out there. If you wait till after you have the baby to have the hernia fixed, more than likely your insurance will cover a tummy tuck at the same time! Just a thought Korta
Guest guest
, I am not so sure what to tell you about the hernia repair but i imagine it wouldn't keep you away from the baby for long.I had my tubes tied with my last baby at the same time as the c section and i was able to hold him and keep him in the room with me.(Of course thats another story since the tubal didn't work!) I have had 3 c sections and i have had a panni with all of them. my incision was low and the skin did hang over the incision. I personally never had a problem with infection. They did not want that area covered with gauze or anything and I had to clean it with peroxide. I think if the c section is neccessary you'll do just fine! Don't worry about the incision its really not as bad as you think. Of course we are all gonna have to just pray that that little tootie decides to turn all by herself. good luck to you! Guest guest
Me too Chrystal! Thanks for the info. If this does have to happen I'm going to talk to my OB about where else we can make the incision to avoid infection. Guest guest
Kathy, Thanks for the info. I guess hubby and I will have to discuss all this stuff this next week while hoping she turns. At my next appointment with my OB if she is still not turned I guess we will make a plan then. Guest guest
Thanks Pam. I could care less about scars, the main reason I'm worry about infection in the panni area is because I also have psoriasis which when in areas like the panni, or any skin fold, is called inverse psoriasis, very prone to yeast and infection. I'm definitely going to do whatever I can to get her to decide to turn on her own. She obviously belongs to me, already showing her Sicilian stubbornness! LOL! Guest guest
, I will try this. What is kinda frustrating is I lay in this position often, I did this long before I even got pregnant! LOL! Being in this position has always helped the pain and pressure in my spine because I have arthritis in my spine. I saw a web site and it gave many positions to sit/lay in and I have done most all of them normally without even knowing that that was a good position for baby, I just did it because it helped with my arthritis and fibromyalgia. It frustrates me to know that I have been in these positions all along and she hasn't ended up in the proper position. (sigh) Oh well, I will keep trying but at the same time mentally preparing myself for the c-section and making a game plan with my hubby to discuss with my OB in the next couple of weeks. Axelrod Re: OB appt today, little concerned I'm real late on this post but if this hasn't been suggested yet try this ... Get on all fours, bring head down to the floor (rest it on a pillow), rest on your elbows and keep your butt high up in the air. Do this for at least 20 min, several times a day. I did this w/ #2 at 37 weeks and was successful! ~ BabyCopia ~ Unique and Original Baby Products ~ Preggie Pops Now Available! ~ www.babycopia.com
