Guest guest
You're right, of course. But it is sooooo hard for me to take this in a good light. So many people think everything that's wrong is a discipline problem. My children not sleeping is another example. And yet when it happens that one of theirs ends up being a non-sleeper, well, that's a different story. After all, they've done everything right and their kid still won't sleep. Haha. It's so good that you have a friend who loves your son so much that she doesn't see his problems (wouldn't be good as a parent, but someone outside of raising him can see him that way). I'm afraid I don't have anyone like that for the one who needs it most. But I guess the few who do love him must authentically love him, it's not always so easy. And you're right about this list, here there is understanding. Lolita >I'm sure in their narrow little minds, it was well-meaning. My girlfriend >still says this to me. Any time I complain about any problems we are having, >she'll say, " Well, that is why you should just drop him off with me. " In her >case, she just means that she will keep him to give us a break, but I have a >hard time taking it that way. She is extremely disorganized and her house is >always an absolute wreck--even worse than mine. So when she says this I >think, " There is NO way I would leave him over there. " Of course, she is one >of my friends who loves my son so much that she just doesn't see any thing >wrong with him. When I told her about his smeering poop on walls, etc again, >she asked why he was doing that. I said, " Duh, because he is autistic! " Oh >well. We should just let it roll of our backs and remember that we have >understanding here on this list!
Guest guest
I took my son to the eye Dr. last week. Dominic wasn't very cooperative, so the Dr. suggested that, at home, I cover one of his eyes and roll a tiny marble or pellet in the opposite direction of him to see if he can track it. I looked at him incredulously and said, " He can't even find his blanket when he's holding it! " He looked at me dumbfounded and said, " Why not? " I guess one day I'll just learn to keep my mouth shut. Re: Digest Number 2902 > You're right, of course. But it is sooooo hard for me to take this in a > good light.
