Guest guest
OK fellow Ponseti followers I want something to look forward to. Can someone tell me what the timeframe is for when they go down in hours in the DBB? I know it's 3 months for 23/7 down to 18. Then how long does she go 18/7 until she can be weaned down to 16, 14, 12? Also I have seen the tips on wearing the DBB and the socks that were recommended. So we stocked up on Old Navy's socks in 0-6 mos size. Well, they're absolutely huge on my poor (almost) 3 month old's feet! So anyone have any suggestions as to where to find some smaller socks with grippers on the bottom? The orthotist said her feet were unusually small and narrow and he deals with these kids everyday. It doesn't help that her CF is a bit smaller than her normal foot either. SO how about it? Any suggestions?? I'm not exactly sure... what we did was when we had an appointment (usually every 3 mo's) he'd either tell me to reduce hours or to keep it up. I did way more hours than he recommended, and each time he wanted to reduce I just took it down a couple of hours rather than do what he told me to. It seemed to work out that we got to 12 hours shortly after she'd been walking for a few months (she walked at 10 mo's) and over a year old. More like 14 mo's I think. I kinda wonder that myself... curious to see if anyone has the real answer to this one. >Also I have seen the tips on wearing the DBB and the socks that were >recommended. But what you can do is to put them on and then put the shoes on. Then pull on the toes of the sock so that the heel is in the right spot on the sock before you tighten the strap and laces all the way. The toes will look all bloused out and funky but it should be smooth in the shoe where it counts. She'll grow into them. This is good... you won't have to buy socks for a long time! Interestingly enough, I can still use the 0-6 mo sizes on Darbi when she is wearing the DBB. Even if they're way too small on her for walking around (fall off) they seem to work just fine in the shoes. She's 22mo's old! Guest guest
Hi Tiffani I didn't find this group till by boy was around 7 months old. We used just ordinary newborn socks without the grip and had no problems, but I have to admit since switching to the socks with grip/rubber they seems to slide in easier. And I can still use the newborn socks when he is in wearing the DBB, when he wears the newborn socks without his shoes they fall off at the heel. As for reduction of DBB hours. Billy wore the DBB for 23/7 for 3 months as you said and then went straight to night time only. He is now 9 months old and had his DBB check up today and the orthodics lady said his foot looks great. I guess its all individual? I'm also a bit of a bragger he can even crawl in his DBB and uses the bar to pull himself up in his cot. (off topic, just very happy with his progress) Sharon Tiffani tahuwgb@...> wrote: OK fellow Ponseti followers I want something to look forward to. Guest guest
Try Walmart. I believe the store here has some smaller socks with the grippers on the bottom in the Faded Glory brand. I have a few pairs of those for Kelsey in a larger size that also seem to work well. Guest guest
Or you can try the Gap. Guest guest
You could try finding preemie socks on the web. Tori had really small feet also and a friend gave me some preemie socks from her little girl that worked pretty good. Not grippy but still worked. We were in the DBB for 23/7 for 3 months then reduced to 18 hours until she started to pull up to a stand and cruse then to 16 hours. I asked Dr P at our last appointment in January when we should go down to just bed times and he said he recommends being in the 16 hour phase as long as the baby is tolerating it. Tori does pretty good with her shoes on so we go back in 6 months. We will probably stay in the 16 hour stage until then for sure. Guest guest
I used gymborees socks. They don't have grippers, but I didn't notice a problem. I also used the Gap socks. the only downfall about those is that they bunched up for us. Plus, they were almost too thick, but that's just my opinion. > > OK fellow Ponseti followers I want something to look forward to. > Can someone tell me what the timeframe is for when they go down in > hours in the DBB? Guest guest
They usually reduce hours down to 12-14hrs after the child starts walking. The reduce hours really depends on the case too. We went from 23hrs for 3 months, down to 16 hours until 10 months (my son was walking at 10 months), then down to 12 hours until he is 3. Regarding socks the best are the infant socks from Baby Gap! > > OK fellow Ponseti followers I want something to look forward to. > Can someone tell me what the timeframe is for when they go down in > hours in the DBB? Guest guest
I just use a seamless sock, where ever I can find one. I didn't see the grippers being of any help to us. s. Guest guest
LOVE the gymboree socks! The only problem is that the thicker fluffy ones are seasonal so they can be hard to find! _____ From: mfolkemer_1999 Sent: Thursday, January 27, 2005 12:54 PM To: nosurgery4clubfoot Subject: Re: Weaning the DBB & sock questions I used gymborees socks. Guest guest
The Children's Place also has socks with grippys, and they have pretty small sizes. , mommy of: Guinevere, on, Ava 8/4/04 right CF DBB 23/7 > > You could try finding preemie socks on the web. Guest guest
When Ava started the DBB I went to Old Navy & bought her a bunch of socks. But I've found that it doesn't really matter whether they have grippys on the bottom or not, she doesn't really have any slipping issues. And I found that the Old Navy socks were a little on the thin side--she has more redness & sometimes purple marks when she wears them, as opposed to when I put a little thicker pair of socks on her they're not as red. The Old Navy socks are also not 100% cotton, which could contribute to the stinky feet! I don't know about the Gap socks or anything, but that's my 2 cents! , mommy of: Guinevere, on, Ava 8/4/04 right CF DBB 23/7 > > > > OK fellow Ponseti followers I want something to look forward to. > > Can someone tell me what the timeframe is for when they go down in > > hours in the DBB? Guest guest
hi I put this in a different message thread - here it is again in case you missed it - its taken from an email I received from Dr Ponseti a couple of days ago re weaning off the brace: " After 3 months of full time brace wear, we usually gradually wean the babies out of the brace, starting with 4 hours a day out for one month, then 8 hours a day out. We try to have the babies wear the brace at night and naptime for a total of 16-18 hours and once they are walking wear it at least 14 hours. We used to recommend bracing continue to age 3, but since we have seen some relapses, we now recommend 3 1/2 to 4 years of age " HTH Stella > > OK fellow Ponseti followers I want something to look forward to. > Can someone tell me what the timeframe is for when they go down in > hours in the DBB?
