Guest guest
my son has recently been seeing a ponseti dr. and he is on his second set of casts. My question is have your children been very uncomfortable or in pain with them? He hasn't been sleeping and is just whining and crying. He is 15 months old. Thank you,
Guest guest
Hi , How long has he been in this set of casts? Were they just done or has it been more than a few days? My son always took about 2 nights to adjust to ponseti's castings. He would cry and wake up probably every 1 1/2 -2 hours to be comforted. I found giving him tylenol and alternating it with ibu worked well on the more severe castings when they got a really good stretch in. If he's been in them for more than a few days, check his toes. Make sure they pass the white test. If you press on his piggies do they turn white and then quickly resume a pink? Keep track of where his toes are at the edge of the casts to make sure they are not slipping. If you notice any movement from their original spot, get him in immediately to change those casts as slipping within them can cause even more damage. I sure hope this helps, if you have any other questions...keep asking or email me. 10-09-03 atypical bl cf > > my son has recently been seeing a ponseti dr. and he is on his > second set of casts. Guest guest
We switched to DR P when Tori was about 5 months old. The first set of cast she had put on by him she had a major problem with. She cried/fussed for 5 days until we went back and had them replaced. There was no problem with the casts or sores on her feet. Her next set when much better and she didn't seem to mind them much at all. I checked for good circulation at the toes and used Tylenol. The first couple days were the worst. If you are real concerned you could call Dr P and see what he says. I think it is harder on them the older they are. Keep us informed. Guest guest
Thanks for your input. has been out of casts for 6 months now so it really is hard on him. This is his second set and they have put casts on both legs this week. I have been giving him advil. The poor thing has barely slept since Tuesday. He actually just fell asleep in his highchair and I managed to get him to bed without him waking. Thank you, Re: so uncomfortable!!! help We switched to DR P when Tori was about 5 months old. Guest guest
It might be because he's older, but painful casting is not usually part of this method. If it continues, you should take him back to the Dr. and have the cast removed to check to see what's going on. Some parents have had casts applied too tight, or there's been something poking at them from inside... or perhaps some kind of skin reaction. Did they tell you to check his toes? You press on them, they turn white and then back to regular color. This shows that the circulation is appropriate. I think I'd call the doc anyway, the whining and crying may be normal but then again it may not and since it's a cast you can't really see what's up. You never know... best to check it out. Guest guest
, will you remind us.. which doctor are you seeing? Ponseti method casting is not usually painful, even at an older age.. though some slight fussiness the first day of a new cast is not uncommon. just wanted to make sure you are getting the right kind of casting technique.. sorry I don't recall the details of your story! and Claire > > my son has recently been seeing a ponseti dr. and he is on his > second set of casts. Guest guest
We are seeing Dr. Carey in London Canada. Dr. Ponseti recommended him to us. He has actually been sleeping for the last hour so I am hoping it will help to make him feel better. Re: so uncomfortable!!! help , will you remind us.. which doctor are you seeing?
