Guest guest
> I would like any and all information I could get on birth control pills. When I read some posts last week about it causing pancreatitis or increasing the attacks and pain I was in shock. I have never heard of this. I started my period at age 10 (now almost 34 years old) and have been on BCP's since I was 18 except when trying to get pregnant with my two boys (4 and 6). > > Please any info would be greatly appreciated. > > (Ohio) > > , I saw that your post was pretty much unanswered, and I don't have a whole lot more to add to what I posted to Kimber. When I was in my late teens and having attacks, my GP told me that it was commonly accepted that BCP's could cause or aggrivatr pancreatitis. Every doctor I have had since including the two Pancreatic Specialists concurred. I quit taking the pill when I got married at 20. (Due to our families pancreatitis was easier to handle than an out of wed- lock child.) At the time I didn't notice a decrease in attacks, but when I tried to restart them, everytime within three days I was in the hospital. I also had BAD trouble with my pancreas throughout both pregnancies, because of the hormones. BTW, if you didn't know BCP's trick your body into thinking you are pregnant and so you don't ovulate. Hope this is helpful, it is all I know on the topic, unless you have any specific questions for me to respond to. (I was an OB/GYN nurse). Love to you, Keri
Guest guest
Hi all. Following along on Pat's question...I just stopped taking the pill in January after being on it for 10 or so years. I was on it primarliy to help me with hormonal migraines, but now that I've lost so much weight, I don't seem to get them anymore. Anyway, now that I'm starting to think about getting pregnant, do you think there will be a problem because I was on the pill for so long? I never thought about it before, but now I'm wondering. Hope everyone has a great weekend! Tracey
Guest guest
Birth control pills are not useless with gastric bypass patients, except in the first few months after surgery, due to losing the fat so rapidly and the hormones that are released with that. You should only need to use a " back up method " or " double protection " for the first few months post op. I have been on birth control pills ONLY since about 3 months post op, and didn't conceive until I stopped taking them, about 15-16 months later. C. Guest guest
I think there are quite a few girls on this board who have gotten pregnant on the pill MONTHS after WLS. My OB told me to never trust the pill ever again after WLS b/c of the malabsorption issues unless I was *ready* to have another baby. I wasn't told this initially, but boy am I glad I had secondary infertility issues, or my (_(_) would have been one of those getting PG from the malabsorption of the pill and that would NOT have been a good thing! Guest guest
Well see, I learned something new today! My nurse practitioner at my WLS office said the only time back up is needed is in the first few months after surgery, she said after that if you get pregnant, it's because you missed a pill, etc. that we don't malabsob enough to make the pill innefective. Thanks for the info! C. WLS 8/28/02 EDD 12/31/04 Subject: Re:Birth control pills I think there are quite a few girls on this board who have gotten pregnant on the pill MONTHS after WLS.
