This is kind of going on on the CF list but it's a little slow there in

general and only a few have posted. But if we got everyone to tell us who

their doc is and if they're great and you'd recommend others going there we

could make a little listie of good docs following the Method and put that

in a file on the website. Also, tell us their contact information, clinic

name, address, phone number, email address, who to talk to about an

appointment, clubfoot clinic days/hours, etc. Also anything else you feel

is important. I will compile the list and either make a database or a Word

document and post it in the files section on the website. I think we can

assume that the big 3, Ponseti, Herzenberg, and Dobbs don't *need* to be

posted to the list but I do need the contact information and all that other

stuff so if you've got that info go ahead and send to the list and I'll

make sure it's in the document.

And yes.... I will try to get the tips done soon. DH is gone tonight so I

can do whatever I want once the kids go to bed... I might just sit in the

living room, watch ER and actually work on it. Or I might just go to bed

early because no one is bugging me lol! OK - I'll try to work on it

:~} This list won't be so hard to do up really, since I can select a

bunch of messages in Eudora, right click and make them all a .txt file. If

you remember, delete the other quoted posts and it'll be easier for me to

clean up that way. Thanks everyone!

I also kind of want to get a list going of docs not on board. But seeing

as that can change at any given moment (if they decide to actually use the

method) and it's kind of not a nice thing to do to say a doc is crummy, I

don't think we should be too public about it. Don't know how to manage

that properly but it sure would be nice to have some list of docs that have

done more damage than good so we can try to help people NOT have to deal

with that. Perhaps we could have a file of testimonials about bad docs, at

least that way it'd be a personal thing a parent posted rather than a list

of docs we keep. Thoughts??

Kori,

Our Ponseti doctor is

Dr. Diane Von Stein

Children's Hospital Cincinnati

MLC 2017

3333 Burnet Ave

Cincinnati, Ohio 45229-3039

www.cincinnatichildrens.org

(513)636-4454 for appointments

email address: diane.vonstein@....

She does not have a specific day that she sees clubfoot patients and she

sees patients at several different satellite offices in the Cincinnati

area on different days of the week. I have liked her very much and she

follows the protocol checklist. She has even given me the answer that

she does it this way because Dr. Ponseti does it that way. One of the

other things that I also really liked about her is that when Kelsey was

due to come out of her 3 week post tenotomy cast and go into the FAB,

her office made the arrangements for the orthotist to be at the

appointment so she could personally oversee the shoes and angles etc. I

had to do nothing in addition to that appointment. I don't know if she

has used them previously but I know that the orthotist also told me that

they have been researching and learning more about the shoes as

well if the need for them arises. They may have prescribed them by now

or previously but the orthotist was learning more about them. I don't

think she has been on the list for very long but I highly recommend

her. I would caution everyone that there are multiple other Doctors in

practice with her but I am not sure that they use the Ponseti method so

I would make sure to get the appointment with her.

As far as the doctor who treated Kelsey previously, we were seeing a

doctor at Children's medical Center in Dayton, Ohio. None of the

Doctors in that practice uphold the Ponseti method. I am fortunate that

the one we saw made his mistake in not being aggressive enough with the

treatment but he errs on the conservative side regarding surgery. In

regards to Kelsey, I know that his opinion was to keep her in AFO's

during the day and the FAB at night with lots of stretching to keep her

foot flexible and easily moved back into the proper position and then,

when she was 3 or 4 he would do the ATTT surgery but maintenance in the

meantime. He never mentioned the tenotomy as an option nor did he lean

to the invasive early surgical procedures. For that, I am grateful. It

is my understanding that one of the other doctors in the practice moves

to surgery much more quickly. While no Doctors here did any irreparable

harm to Kelsey, I would avoid their practice for CF treatment especially

since Dr. Von Stein is only 1 hour away.

Hi

I have no complaints about our doc so far. He answers our questions, has 4

children of his own which is comforting as he will have some empathy with new

parents and what they are going through. Its emotional to see your baby crying

when they are having plaster applied and your hormones are going a bit crazy. He

also seems caring and doesn't beat around the bush. He was referred to us by

the paediatrician who saw Billy after he was born. His wife is also a

paediatrician (but we don't see her).

He sees paediatric patients on Tuesdays. Operates on Mondays at the mercy

private. He is also the department head of orthopaedics at the childrens

hospital. He recently relocated his office a block or two away from the

Childrens' . To see orthotics you will need to venture over to the childrens

hospital.

As far as Ponsetti certified, I don't think so, but you wouldn't know. He does

follow the Ponsetti method. If anyone would like to contact me regarding him my

email is s.smith@....

Fabulous, fabulous idea!!!!

I have several testimonies of my old doc. I think we do need to be

careful in that area. We don't want to ruin these docs careers, however,

they should not be treating clubfoot unless they truly know what they are

doing. The problem is, they ALL think they know what they are doing. Man,

is it ever frustrating!

FYI-

There is a reference database for this information on our website

also-

If you click on " database " on the menu then click on the

patient/physician database.

These are parents willing to be contacted about a particular doctor.

Kori,

Here is Dr. Dobbs contact info:

B. Dobbs

St. Louis Children's Hospital

One Children's Place, Suite 1B

St. Louis, MO 63110

Appointments: x. 21

Medical Assistant ():

Fax:

email: mattdobbs@...

or

Shriners Hospital for Children

2001 South Lindbergh

St. Louis, Missouri 63131

Phone:

email: dobbsmatthew@...

He sees patients on Thursdays at the Children's Hospital location but

I'm not sure what days he is at Shriner's. I think it is hard to get

in to see him there, we had trouble and ended up going to Children's.

Another piece of info people might be interested in is the Orthotics

Lab where they are making the Dobbs brace (btw it is able to be used

w/ the Markell shoes, the brace has the same screws on the bottom that

we had w/ our gold non-adjustable bar).

Orthotic & Prosthetic Lab, Inc.

Osterman

509 S. Euclid Ave., Rm. 335

St. Louis, MO 63110

Phone:

Fax:

http://www.oandplabinc.com

They have several offices in the St. Louis area, this just happens to

be the office I go to because it is in the same medical complex w/ Dr.

Dobbs office.

Hope this is helpful!
