Guest guest
for a diagnosis you need a biopsy of muscle tissue to see if there are ragged red fibers...also dna testing. Are you of small stature? Do you have other problems that are health related...what specifically is your question? Vivian
Guest guest
I missed the original post about MELAS but you can also be diagnosed via a blood test as my sister initially was. When she went into uncontrollable seizures they did a muscle biopsy which confirmed. My son and I are not of small stature (actually short and a little overweight). We were diagnosed via dna blood test. Janet Sample Re: Melas for a diagnosis you need a biopsy of muscle tissue to see if there are ragged red fibers...also dna testing. Are you of small stature? Guest guest
So far my seizures are kept under control as I take 200 mg Dikantin one night and 300 mg the next night as well as 50 mg Primidone in the am, for that I am very thankful as I wouldn't know if I was going to have a seizure as I have always had mine at night when I was asleep and would wake my husband up. Once had to give me what he knew about CPR, which really wasn't anything except he knew he had to do something as I was turning blue. They late told me in ER that I was lucky my son knew CPR, I looked at them and said " my son doesn't know the first thing about CPR " . The nurse said then God must have been guiding him as he saved your life. I owed him so much and yet I couldn't get over there to try to help him when he was so sick. He would have been 49 on July 2nd if he would have lived. Guest guest
Dolores, I am sorry that you have seizures, but glad that they have them under control. I get Stroke Like episodes, and I also get some kind of seizure but I am not on any medication. If didn't know anything about CPR then I would say he was guided by a Higher Power indeed. I am sure that knew how much you loved him, and that you would have been right by his side to help him when he was sick if you could have. I am sorry that he isn't with you any longer, for I can tell how much you loved him. I have no doubt that is still looking after you and taking care of you in his own way.
