Lori-

Two suggestions-

1) lace locks (the little plastic lace keepers) if you can find

them...they can be difficult to locate, and usually any baby that

can undo a double knot can remove the lace keeper

2) Lace the shoes upside down so that the laces are near the toes.

This is a pain for the parent in putting on/off the shoe, but at

least if he undoes the knot, odds are that you'll see the shoe

untied before it actually comes off.

The final solution is always: DUCT TAPE. :)

This is ' favourite trick too!! I have bought socks that have a fold

down

section (or just buy longer socks) and fold them down over the laces. The

kinda look like leg warmers ... I pull the sock right down over the laces and

top

knot. He hasn't been able to pull the sock up yet!!

A great tip that was recently passed on to me by one of the members of this

board is to fold the socks down over the laces ....out of sight, out of mind!!

So far it is working for us!!

I have been double knotting Grace's laces since she was about 3

months for just this reason. The laces are of good quality so it's

not hard to get them undone from the double knots.

Lori,

We have a little lace houdini here too! When Owen was younger, I

used socks that had a little stretch (spandex knit) and when I was

finished lacing up the shoes, I would pull the sock right down over

the whole top of the shoe and hook it under the bottom of the shoe

at the toes. This worked well for quite a while - 'out of site, out

of mind'. When that method began to fail, I tried double knotting

the laces...Owen managed to pull those laces out just as soon as I

got them tied. What works now is triple knotted laces. If he

really works at it, he can get them undone but most of the time it's

too much of an effort and he gets distracted easily enough by other

things. There was a period of about 2 weeks where he was constantly

untying them - during that time, I did use duct-tape!

Hope this helps!

Houdini! That cracked me up! Yes, the double knotting doesn't help a bit.

I will try triple tomorrow!! Thanks so much, Lori
