Guest guest
hi all, new here. my 18 mos son was dx with leaky gut today after numerous tests run by great plains lab in ks. hes been sick since 2 mos off and on after 2 bouts of rsv, numerous courses of antibiotics and even a one month run on prednisone (yikes - i have learned quite a bit since!). his illnesses come every month or so and start out with clear runny nose, then chesty cough for 2 weeks, then great for another month...he does seems to be a bit on the hyperactive side (maybe normal for a toddler boy??), but so far is developing great. he's talking up a storm and interacts with everyone very well. in fact some have even said he seems to be ahead (which i dont necessarily agree with - they all develop at their own pace). we were finally able to find someone to run these tests for us. his peptides for gluten were high. casein was high, but not too bad. he showed slight " allergy " to most dairy with peanuts being the highest and wheat products. all of his results indicated a bacterial infection with only slight yeast overgrowth. nystatin will wait for now. he will be taking a more potent probiotic (he had been one for over 8 mos, but apprently was not strong enough) and also on some herbal treatment (biocide - or something like that - cant remember the exact name right now). also hes getting a boost of vic c and will be taking cod liver oil (gag!) along with his daily flax seed oil supplement. and of course the gluten free diet is now a part of our lives. looks like its going to be tough, but my baby is worth it! our NP suggested since the casein wasnt too bad to hold off on that at this point and just do gluten. good thing because i dont know if my guy could live without cheese and yogurt LOL! an 18 mos old is hard enough to feed normally! he has not and will not drink cows (other than what is in his cheeses/yogurts) milk though, he drinks rice (gluten free as of today). so that is my story and i'm sticking to it! ) any info on the best place to get started, cookbook recommendation, or anyone else with a similar situation who would like to chat - it would be appreciated. thanks!
