Guest guest
Hi , Well it could be doctor and it also could be a lot of ear infections. I know sometimes if the infection is really bad, 10 days of antibiotics doesn't clear it up completely. You think it is gone, when actually it isn't. We went through the same thing with our son Austin. He had chronic ear infections starting at 6 months until 15 months. Finally, we opted for tubes. I would be concerned about the doctor making his ear bleed!! Use that mommy instinct. If you don't like his ped I would look for a new one. HTH! Guest guest
, So it could be one really bad ear infection? Or just one right after the other? I think I am changing the Pediatrician either way because the whole bleeding incident left me with a bad feeling about them. So, is there a time frame for the tubes? For instance, does there need to be continuous infections for 6 months before the tubes are considered? Mommy to (12-17-98) and Christian (1-30-04) LCF - DBB (nights only) _____ From: susan.shook@... Guest guest
My gets one ear infection a year, it usually is an antibiotic resistant one and we need 2 to 3 courses of antibiotics. Our doc told us that if he gets one more this winter, we already had one, that we will need to look into tubes. He does not want Christophe to develop an immunity to the antibiotics. I would change pedi's immediately, that would have put so much doubt in my mind. I would consult an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist to find out what the requirements are for tubes. I know that it is chronic/resistant infections, but I am not sure what exactly is the # that they look for. DM Gerace cgerace@...> wrote: , So it could be one really bad ear infection? Guest guest
, Usually chronic ear infections comes from that particular ear canal being smaller than average. In these cases a little cold can trigger an ear infection because the canal gets blocked so easily because it is so small and it cannot drain properly. Now whether or not your son needs tubes is a matter of opinion. From a parent standpoint, are the ear infections continuous over a long period of time? Or, is this just a bad winter and he coincidentally is having consecutive infections? My best suggestion would be if this is really bothering you, take him to an ENT. Guest guest
, It is possible, Jenna had one last year that was just like that...3 rounds of different antibiotics in the course of about a month and a half. And she's only had one ear infection prior to that in her whole life (she's almost 4). But, on the other hand, I would probably go to an ENT just to get it looked at due to the bleeding incident. That would worry me, that this is not just a normal ear infection, but an infection caused by the dr. poking him in the ear or whatever she did to make him bleed. Either way, I guess antibiotics would clear it up but I would still want to make sure nothing was damaged in there. Hope everything is okay! > Since there are so many great parents who have provided me with and immense > amount of valuable advice..I have one more question. > > > > Christian has had ongoing ear infections for more than a month but now I am > questioning the doctor! Guest guest
I'd be for getting a 2nd opinion from a different doctor at this point....and while all this is fresh in your memory, document it just in case there turns out to be ear damage due to that first doctor's injury to the ear. s. OT/ doctor made Christian's ear bleed! Since there are so many great parents who have provided me with and immense amount of valuable advice..I have one more question. Christian has had ongoing ear infections for more than a month but now I am questioning the doctor! The first time I believe it was an ear infection. The second time it was probably and ear infection but during that visit the doctor was sticking something in his ear and she cut it inside. He was bleeding profusely for several minutes. She was very nervous and got extremely defensive. She must have looked inside his ear about 10 more times before we left after that visit. Since then he still pulls that ear and cries a lot of the time. I took him back again and (the same doctor) says he has another ear infection! WHAT???????????????????????????? Is this possible? 3 different Antibiotics in less 40 days! I know kids get a lot of ear infections but is that ridiculous or is it feasible? Guest guest
Hmm, I have no idea. She may have partially popped his eardrum. It can happen, the could news it can heal but is very painful. I'd see another doctor.
