capsule release

My son just had surgery yesterday and I know I've seen that term

capsule release on this board before and I tried using the search,

but I can't find the info on it. People are asking what it is and I'm

not entirely sure, but I know I've seen it here if someone could let

me know what it is or where I can find the info I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

Sorry, Holly, that you haven't had responses. Just wanted to say I

hope your son is recovering well.

I have 'heard' of a capsule release.. but can't give any specific

info. Was it part of a posterior release? I have heard that described

as a release of the soft tissues of the foot.. the ligaments, joint

capsules and tendons.. but can't describe what the joint capsule is.

Maybe if you do a search on that term? Also, of course, you could

call the office and talk to a nurse for clarification, just to help

you as you process this and explain it to family. Do you have a

follow-up soon?

take care,

You know - I've searched the web too - the explanations I've got are

pretty complicated/technical. From what I gather, the ankle capsule

is behind the achilles tendon and it is soft tissue. I can't picture

it, though. I, too, have had a hard time explaining to people what

will be done-

Livi's going to be having the same thing soon. How is your son

doing? Is he adjusting to the casts?

OK good explainations, that's kind of what the DR said was it was

behind the tendon a bit deeper. athan is recovering OK he had a

reaction to the Narcotics (given for pain right before he woke up)

and stopped breathing on his own so it was good he had a venilator

already down his throat. They think this happened because he was a

premature baby. The stain on the cast is what freaked me out the

most. I thought that the cut was a vertical one, but it goes from

ankle bone to ankle bone so blood stain was on both sides of the

cast. Today (second day after surgery) he is pretty much back to

himself and his sleep schedule although he still seems a bit

irritated about having a cast on again. The day of the surgery he

slept like all day and then yesterday he was upset since it hurt to

swallow and he was hungry and sore. He's on Infant Tylenol, but if he

hadn't been sensitive to the narcotics then he would've had a RX of

stronger Tylenol with codine. Anyway good luck with Livi's surgery,

and let me know if you have any more questions on recovery.

I called the DR the day after the surgery and that's when I found out

exactly what they did. The day of the surgery my husband, baby, and I

had to be at the hospital at 5:30 AM and we were all so tired when

the surgery was done that things that the DR had said didn't really

click until the day after. The follow-up will be in four weeks, but

lack of sleep and other concerns have made me so ditzy that I haven't

made the exact appointment yet. The terms you described sound

familiar so I will try those too. Thanks

Today he's doing OK he still seems uncomfortable with the cast, but

other than that he's back to normal. I'm still tired and trying to

catch up on some sleep so I can remember to do things like make

appointments. Things are going well otherwise thanks for the concern

and support.
