Guest guest
Hello Friends, I have a simple question that I am hoping you can help me with. My 14 month old son is about to start walking. He took his first steps on his own this morning! He has never worn shoes before (except while in his DBB, of course) and I am wondering if there are some sort of special shoes that he should wear once he starts walking? Any advice would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance, Sonja Dane-12/12/03 DBB at bedtime
Guest guest
Yippeee for those first steps!!! When my ds first started walking, I emailed Dr. Ponseti that exact question. He said that any shoe will do. We did end up buying Stride Rite for his first pair - just because I felt like his foot deserved the best. We quickly realized that it really didn't matter, and that any shoe really would do - and we didn't have to pay a bundle for 'em. I seem to remember somebody (was it Dr. P - I'm not sure) saying that shoe-less was still best, even when first walking. I could be wrong there though, just something I seem to remember reading somewhere. Again - MANY congrats on reaching this wonderful milestone!!! Guest guest
In my opinion, from what I've gathered, your child should need nothing special for walking, what ever is soft, fits well, gives good support and balance you know, like you would for any baby. Or barefooted is just fine, even better, in a lot of cases. Congratulations on the first steps!!!! how fun! s.
