Guest guest
, First, congrats on your new little boy! Is he your first? Try not to worry too much, as easy as it is for me to say that and as hard as it is for you to do that! My daughter Ava is 6 months old now, she was born with a right CF that we didn't know about before she was born. She recieved her first cast at 8 days old. I remember what a confusing time it was, but rest assured that pretty soon you'll be tossing around terms like DBB & talipes & dorsiflexion like you're a doctor! There's some really good info in the files & photos section here, and Kori has a great tips file she sends occasionally for when Connor goes into the DBB. I'm pretty sure I've seen the name Dr. Talwalker mentioned on here before, I can't remember what was said. I'm sure someone else will chime in with more specifics on him. As far as the course of treatment, that sounds pretty right. After the tenotomy, he'll have one last cast for 3 weeks before he goes into the DBB (bar & shoes) which he'll wear 23 hrs a day for 3 months, then gradually reduced time until he's at 12 hrs (basically nights) until he's around 4 years old. Try not to get scared about anything you might read on here or while doing research. The vast majority of us on here (IMO!) have beautiful babies, with simply a " crooked " foot/feet. And the DBB just becomes a part of life. As frustrating as it can be at times, know you're doing the best for your little guy! The only other suggestions I have for you are maybe consider joining CFPics so we can see pics of your little guy, and the Clubfoot Swap group where maybe you can get some stuff for him! Guest guest
Thank you for the reply . Connor is my second son. My first son was born with no problems. And like you my husband and I didn't know that Connor was that way before he was born. You helped me out alot. Actually we just got back from getting 2nd set of casts. I am starting to feel better now. How do I join the CFPics and the other thing you were mentioning. I would like very much. Guest guest
I'm a little late responding here but it sounds like a lot of casts to me. Are his feet atypical or otherwise extreme cases of cf? All I can advise is DO YOUR HOMEWORK. You are paying this doctor, make sure you get what you are paying for or go elsewhere. As for a hard time dealing with it - well, we've pretty much all been there before, sometimes we even go back! It gets better, I promise. Hang around, let us know how it goes and let us help with any questions. s. connors bcl My son was born with bcl he was just born 11 days ago and had his first set of casts put on last monday at Shriners in Lexington Ky. We are going back every monday until they are corrected. This is a new experience for me. The ponseti treatment is what they use at shriner's in lexington. Dr. Talwalker said it would be 6 to 8 weeks of casts then the tenotomy then 3 more weeks of casts and then the braces. I would just like some advice on this method. My husband and I are having a hard time dealing with this. Is this really the true ponseti method or what? Thank you
Guest guest
It sounds about right to me. The last 3 weeks after the tenotomy is just one set of casts that stay on for 3 weeks. Once they are removed, he should be put into the brace immediately. Guest guest
, Good luck with the DBB. I hope the transition into the shoes is a smooth one for Connor. Please keep us updated. connors bcl hey everyone just an update on connor. He is 2 months old now and just got into his DBB yesterday. So far so good. His legs were really bruised when the casts but his tenotomy incision looked great. I know the next 3 to 4 months is going to be no easy ride but me and mark are ready to that connor will be able to enjoy life later on. In case there are new people on here Shriners in lexington kentucky is great and so is Dr. Talwalker. I will be posting pictures of connor soon. Thanks for all the support I have gotten through the casting process. If anyone can offer any advice i would like some. Thanks and Connor BCL/DBB 23/7 2/9/2005
