Guest guest
, Do you have a copy of H-43? It's a letter written by Dr. H but it outlines what to do in case of sickness. The nice thing is that it has her address and name and phone number on the top, so it adds clout. When we go to the ER, we bring the blue brochure and that particular article. If you don't have the article, Dr. H defines what to do in case of lack of eating. She says to admit them to the hospital and have them put on an IV of D10W immediately plus electrolytes and kept in the hospital until they're eating again. (Eating complex carbs that will not cause them to burn fat). Anyway, I've been through this a couple of times. Good luck! We'll be praying!!! Guest guest
Our son Jonah has been throwing up all night and can't even keep juice down. We are bringing him to the doctor now and we let them know about the IV, but is there anything else we should know? I called Magic for the blue brochure, but no one is there yet. Any help is appreciated. (2 and a half, RSS)
Guest guest
Stacey, Thank you so much for writing back. The pediatrician suggested that we give him an hour and try to feed him a tsp a minute of pedialyte and if he does not take it or throws up, then go to the hospital. It sounds like you are saying not to wait, just go to the hospital, is that correct? I think I am going to call the doctor back and suggest we go right to the hospital. Guest guest
Why do RSS kids need to goto the hospital more quickly when Throwing up then most other kids? Orlando Florida
Guest guest
I hope that by the time you read this Jonah is in the hospital with the fluids that he needs. It is so hard when they are sick and can't keep food down. Been down that road too many times to count!!! Good luck and let us know how things turn out. Hopefully it will not be a long stay. Jodi Z. Guest guest
Please contact the MAGIC FOundation and request the RSS information as this will explain things clearly and concisely. www.magicfoundation.org or 800-3MAGIC3. You can also request documents H-26 and H-28, as these are documents that Dr. Harbison wrote explaining why an RSS child has a higher risk for hypoglycemia and or ketone spilling.
