Re: Growth Hormone Devices??

I would recommend using Eli Lilly's Injectease device with their

Humatrope product, for now. This is like a Bic Pen in a sense -- a

cylinder that you actually fill up your normal needle/syringe with

the med, and then insert the needle/syringe into this cylinder. The

Injectease HIDES the needle!!! PLUS, it has a spring-release button

that VERY fast pushs the needle into his skin and you just FAST push

the syringe down, counting to 3 or so, and lift off the skin, and

BAM -- in 4-5 seconds you are done, and he can't see anything! The

Injectease, as your press the cylinder against the skin (no pain),

the pressure distracts the child also as the needle is spring-loaded

into the skin -- remember that the needle is VERY short. I

recommend a " B-D Ultra Fine 31 gauge short needle " or something like

that. As the numbers INCREASE on the needle the needle gets

THINNER. 30 gauge or 31 gauge is essential.

Do NOT use an alcohol wipe unless they are filthy dirty. It can

sting. And although doctors will say use the top of the thigh, we

have found that the butt is best -- most fat on our skinny kids, and

bruises the least (and if a little drop of blood does come, rarely,

your kid can't see it).

Eli Lilly's growth hormone product is Humatrope -- and because he is

still so young, it is more ideal than a pen because as he grows and

gains weight, and the GH dosages are upped, they are upped in very

minute increments. " Pen devices " -- you click to change the dose,

can not be inched up in as small of incrementals.

Hope this helps explain things. So again, I recommend Eli Lilly's

Injectease device combined with Humatrope growth hormone and normal

syringes with 31 gauge short needles.

Hi ,

just turned 4, but his measurements are around the same as

(24 lb 9 oz and 33 1/2 inches when starting GH). Dr H

prefered nutropin for (although she didn't tell us why). We

use a syringe and the inject-ease device which has worked out very

well.

Good luck,

Judith, Steve, (RSS) and (non RSS) 4 year old twins

hi christine,

sorry this response is a little late. i can't check my e-mails right away.

my kids & husband keeps me busy. anyways, my son started gh when he was

around 2 1/2 years old. he is now 3 1/2. we used genotropen and it was

really easy to use, you don't need to mix anything. unfortunately, our

insurance changed (due to my husband's new job) and now using humatropen. my

son didn't really have any problems with bruising when we used the

genotropen, but with humatropen i see some bruises. also, for some reason my

son complains that it stings (we've been using humatrope for 2 months), he

didn't do that when we were using genotropen. well, that's our experience.
