My son, , has bilateral CF and he's wearing his DB (Dobb's

brace) 23/7. When we take his brace off and he stands his left foot

goes out to a 90 degree angle. I'm glad his foot is not going in

but is it normal to go out so much?

Thanks,

DB 23/7---only 4 weeks left!!!!

Initially, yes. Not sure about the 90 degrees though - is the brace set at 90?

The typical brace is set at 70 and yes the baby's foot will maintain that

position for a while but eventually outgrow it. The over-correction allows for

the foot to move in to a normal position, rather than move back in too far.

Hi,

It is set at 70 but somehow his foot can go 90. Sometimes it freaks

me out because it looks like it's going to snap-off or he's going to

break it. I know he won't but it's so weird to see this especially

since all we have ever seen is the foot going the opposite direction.

At least I know that it turning out is OK. I guess I'll just ask

his Dr. at the next apt. the end of March.

Thanks!

Well I can't offer you any help but I think I remember hearing about something

like this before, perhaps that parent can chime in? Good luck. How old is your

baby now?

My daughter also got a late start in the FAB. We started with Dr.

Ponseti when she was 6 months old. Our first Dr. said he was doing

the Ponseti method, but he really wasn't. Claire's 's are

set at 70, but her feet also turn out to at least 90 when she is

standing out of her shoes. Your right, it's pretty wierd looking.

Her feet/ankles look they are made of rubber. They practically twist

around in a circle when she is standing in place. I wrote to Dr. P.

and he said this was normal. It just takes time for the muscles in

the legs and feet to strengthen. Being on her feet and starting to

walk will help this. She isn't walking yet, but she is pulling her

self up to everything, and taking steps while holding on.

Hi ,

My son is 19 months old and we too got a late start with the Ponseti

method. I'm very very happy to hear that this is normal because

's physical therapist was a little concerned about it.

Thanks so much for your reply!
