Guest guest
I forwarded your message to a mom here named whose son does something like this. She's been awol a few days, her computer may be down - but I think she may have some ideas for you. Right now she's taking her son to water therapy, something you might want to consider. It's helping . s. is 16 months still not even standing Hi everyone, I don't post very often but I do read the posts daily. My son is 16 months old and has bilateral clubfeet. He just got out of casts 3 weeks ago and is now in the DBB 23 hours a day. He just got out of casts because we switched to a Ponseti Dr. here in Canada who is amazing. Anyways, I am starting to get quite concerned because cannot pull himself up to stand, cruise or walk. When my husband and I stand him up he just collapses or pulls his legs up to his bum. He is seeing a physiothearpist once a week to strenghthen his leg muscles but everyone I talk to including the Ponseti dr. says that him not walking has nothing to do with his clubfeet or casting. Is anyone else dealing with this much of a delayment? thanks so much!
Guest guest
Hi laura, Just some thoughts. Was wondering how much does he spend on the floor in a given day? My only suggestion would be to let him be on the floor as much as possible. Is the physio giving ideas for things you can do with him at home? The johnny jump up strengthened Zoe's legs a lot if you have a doorway to hang it in. Zoe was on the late side of doing all gross motor type stuff, including walking, but her dad's side of the family were all " late walkers " ~16 months. When did you and your husband and your siblings walk? It's usually a strong indicator of when your child will walk. I don't think docs start getting worried about them not walking until 18 months, but it's definitely better to be proactive than to sit and wait two more months... In addition, when Zoe was 3 1/2 we had her evaluated by an OT who determined she was 1 year behind in gross motor skills due to an inner ear problem which impacts her ability to balance properly. She had no interest in gross motor activities unless another kid was there. She just wanted to swing, swing, swing. After 4 months of weekly OT and lots of scooter riding, she's now ahead of where she should be. Her upper body isn't very strong, though. Just my 2 cents. Guest guest
, I know exactly how you feel. My son, Kolby, just turned 15 months and is still not walking. He's pretty much been in the middle of some kind of treatment his whole life. Like you, we changed to a Ponsetti Dr. later in age, who started his treatment all over from the beginning. Just in the past couple of months he has started to pull up some. He still supports his weight more with his upper body than with his legs. Like , when we try to stand him, he pulls his legs up off the floor. We did talk to Dr. Dobbs about this and he didn't seem to be concerned and said that when he could spend more time out of brace, he would develop more as far as cruising and putting more weight on his legs. He said that some children are just slower and more reserved than others. Kolby was unstoppable with his crawling and getting into things but he just never really stood that much on his bar. There's always that possibility that something else is slowing down but I think as a mom, you can sense that. I truly feel that Kolby is just behind. His calf muscles are still very " mushy " , which my husband keeps pointing out to me when I start finding reasons to worry. I have noticed a difference in his calves since he's been wearing his brace 14/7 and I think his muscle tone is slowly but surely coming around. Does have any defined muscle tone yet? What does your physitherapist say? I don't think Kolby's clubbed feet directly caused him to be delayed. I just think his calf muscle development has been slow because he's always preferred crawling. If it makes you feel any better, Kolby has a classmate in his daycare that at the age of 18 mos, was just advanced to the next class in hopes that it would make him want to walk. He just had no interest. (that always makes me feel better)That child has since started to walk some but still prefers crawling???? I would be very observant to watch for other things that could be slowing him down but since he jerks his feet away from the floor when you try to stand him, it sounds to me that he's just not there yet. Sorry for being so long-winded, but I can most definately relate. I can't wait for the day he takes a step on those feet and I know you feel the same way.
