Guest guest
My son also got the tenotomy re-done when he had the ATTT surgery. Beyond that I'm afraid I cannot help. s. Dorsiflexion - Dr. Ponseti article on treating relapses In Dr. Ponseti's article on treating relapses he mentions that, along with the ATTT, the heel cord is lengthened if dorsiflexion is under 15°. When Emma had her ATTT done Dr. Ponseti said that at 5° dorsiflexion she didn't need to have the heel cord lengthened. The paper was produced in 2001 and here is the exact quote; " This treatment [ATTT] is followed by lengthening the tendo Achilles when dorsiflexion of the ankle is less than 15 degrees. " Has anyone read or heard more from Dr. Ponseti on this? Dan
Guest guest
Hi, Did your son have a tenotomy or open incision lengthening? I'm wondering which he meant in the article. Thanks for your reply, Dan Re: Dorsiflexion - Dr. Ponseti article on treating relapses My son also got the tenotomy re-done when he had the ATTT surgery. Beyond that I'm afraid I cannot help. s. Guest guest
Hm, I'm not sure how to answer that. The first time at 3 months old, a non-ponseti dr. put three nicks in each heel (scars are still there). After the ATTT he had one long line up the back of his heel. There is still a minor scar from that too. When dr. Ponseti did my other son (as an infant) - it was only one small nick and no scar is left. I guess it sounds like he had an open incision during the ATTT. s. ----- Did your son have a tenotomy or open incision lengthening? I'm wondering which he meant in the article. Guest guest
I believe 15 degrees is optimal but 5-10 degrees of dorsiflexion is still ok. Dr. Herzenberg said the tendon may stretch some more once the child starts walking. > In Dr. Ponseti's article on treating relapses he mentions that, along with > the ATTT, the heel cord is lengthened if dorsiflexion is under 15°. Guest guest
Dan- My doctor, Dr.Colborn, also said that 5-10 degree dorsiflexion is acceptable and common in CF children. I know from Lori, Annika's mom, that Annika at age 5 had 0 degree dorsiflexion and Dr. P and Dr. C didn't do anything about it. It is only harmful if it goes the degrees goes into the negative. > My son also got the tenotomy re-done when he had the ATTT surgery. Guest guest
I hope you dont mind me asking but what exactly happened to your son? i have seen that you have 2 boys with club feet right? are they twins? believe me i can sympathize w/ you about trusting dr.s after all they are dr.s and sometimes they make you out to feel like " we are the doctors not you we know what needs to be done. " fortunetly, we as parents know better and find better care for our kids. michelle and samantha bl cf 12/16/03 > > My son also got the tenotomy re-done when he had the ATTT > surgery.
