Guest guest
, This is completely normal. I have a picture of 's corrected foot at rest (at age 2 I believe) that shows it " turning in " at her website. I asked Dr. P about it at the time and he said it was fine. As long as his foot is straight or overcorrected when he's standing, walking etc. and still has the dorsiflexion, it doesn't matter where it falls at rest. That's just where the foot is " comfortable " - it doesn't indicate a relapse. Hope this eases some of your fears! I'll put the link to 's website below if you want to seek out the photo- just go to the photos section and click on the yahoo album link. Or you can access the album through the links section on the group's website. Guest guest
, I wrote to Dr. Ponseti last week because I had that same question. I'm so worried that Claire is going to relapse. Her feet are well corrected and overly flexible. It's a little scarey. Her ankles look like they are made of rubber. He assured me that this is normal. He said that the joints are very loose, but as she begins to walk and strengthen all of the leg and feet muscles, she will no longer turn her feet in when relaxing. It just takes time. I hope this helps. Guest guest
, One other question. I noticed on 's website -- which by the way she is absolutely adorable! -- that one of the photos of the shoes and bar you pointed out the plastizode insert. I was wondering if you are still using the plastizode and what other people are doing. When we first started w/ the shoes I felt the plastizode was actually hindering me in getting his heel seated in the shoe properly. We have since removed it and are doing well in the shoes w/o it. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the newer markells don't really need this -- just wondering what others are doing now. Thanks, > > > > I've been noticing that when Sammy is out of his shoes that if he > is > > laying down w/ his feet fully relaxed in front of him, his clubfoot > > kind of points down and is does not stay turned outward, similar to > > the last cast he had prior to the tenotomy. Guest guest
- isn't in the brace. Those pictures are circa 2000. You're right, with the newer Markells with the padded heels, they're not required. Also, I don't think the plastizode is as necessary for older children once the heel area is well formed versus the infant's round foot. Hope this helps! > > > > > > I've been noticing that when Sammy is out of his shoes that if he > > is > > > laying down w/ his feet fully relaxed in front of him, his clubfoot > > > kind of points down and is does not stay turned outward, similar to > > > the last cast he had prior to the tenotomy. Guest guest
I have been wondering the same thing and was going to post that question. is slightly different than Sammy. When he gets tense his right foot turns in slightly. I didn't know if this was something to worry about or if it would work itself out. It is fine when he is relaxed and when he puts weight on it. signs of relapse?? I've been noticing that when Sammy is out of his shoes that if he is laying down w/ his feet fully relaxed in front of him, his clubfoot kind of points down and is does not stay turned outward, similar to the last cast he had prior to the tenotomy. His foot is fully flexible though, great dorsiflexion and if he " lap stands " he puts his foot flat and it is turned outward nicely (overcorrected still). It just has been concerning me that when he relaxes his foot it goes into this position. What do you guys think? thanks,
