Guest guest
julzd, my daughter has been through this surgery twice.. where they cut the Achilles tendon... and they actually cut it in half and some how, through the grace of biology, it grows back together... but they will sedate her... usually use oxygen mask... grace never had an i.v. done though... they make a TINY little insicion at the back of the ankle and snip the tendon... put on a butterfly bandage... then cast over the top of it... usually there is very little or no bleeding... and very little or no sorenesss... they will put her in a full leg cast for 3 weeks... then should move to some sort of brace... it depends on the doctor whether you get to be present... if it's done in an office then yes.. grace's surgeries were done in the operating room and i was not present... but was in the recovery room when she woke up... they usually will give a RX for pain medicine but she might not even need it... or just need it for the first evening... and possibly just need motrin for 1-2 days to prevent any swelling... but normally there is no swelling to deal with.... but it's a very short and small procedure and almost no pain to the baby... grace was up and standing right after they released her out of the recovery room to a normal holding area... she was cruising the furniture that evening and laughing... so i know she wasn't in a lot of pain.. so don't worry.. if this is the procedure then it's really not bad.. good luck!! mommy to Grace 12-03-03 BCF julzdavidsonuk julzdavidsonuk@...> wrote: Hi Everyone, After a long haul with an Atypical foot and a seriously wiggly little girl! We resorted to casting her good foot too!! This stopped her kicking the cast off. This has worked a treat and finally getting to the finish line! So now Ive been told they are booking the theatre for her tendon to be cut. But Im not sure what to expect. What actually happens. Will they sedate her? Or give her any anaethetic? Will I be present? Im abit squeamish!! Will the cast go straight on top of the cut? Or do they put a dressing on? Will she be in any pain for a day or two? Anything I need to know or do? Any advice appreciated please. Im based in the UK with a recommended Ponsetti doc. Also anything I need to get in for the boots, eg what socks are best? Guest guest
I'm a little late with this, but I wanted to say your " solution " made me laugh! That's really thinking out of the box--casting Aurora's other foot! As for the tenotomy, it really depends on your doc. Our doc did it under general anesth. We weren't there. They put the cast on in the OR, it didn't seem like there was anything else on the cut besides the normal cotton padding. She slept the rest of the day (but that might be different with babies who only have a local) and was slightly fussy the next day, but nothing that baby tylenol & extra milkies couldn't handle! By the way, Ava was 7 weeks when she had it done. Hope this helps! Any other questions just ask! , mommy of: Guinevere, on, Ava 8/4/04 right CF DBB 16-18/7 > > Hi Everyone, > > After a long haul with an Atypical foot and a seriously wiggly > little girl!
