Guest guest
ROCK ON HEATHER (and Josh of course!) A jeffs mom Our week in review.. I just thought I'd post how our week went.. Josh has been GFCF for almost 2 weeks now and I have been so happy over some new behaviours he's been exhibiting in the last couple days.. For starters, He's playing WITH people.. Not just near them, or whatever.. Actually cooperating! My girlfriend and I took the kids to Chuck E Cheese Monday morning and Josh wandered off near the video games.. I could see him watching this other child and his mom playing the basketball game. Typically, if they were to talk or even look at him, he'd pull his hands in under his chin and turn away and run for me or a quiet corner.. This time, he reached in the bin where the basketballs were and pulled out a ball and HANDED IT TO THE OTHER CHILD! The other child took it and shot the ball into the basket while took out another one to hand to him.. I was just in awe watching him.. The next morning I was logged on checking my email and the kids were eating breakfast in the living room.. I heard the smacking of little feet running on tile coming toward my room (where the computer is).. Josh comes tearing in, looking over his shoulder, arms up in the air, giggling.. He runs up to me and jumps in my lap. Next I see Dana come tearing in after him, laughing saying " HE TOOK MY DONUT!! " .. Later in the day they were playing together, taking turns playing at the new Little Tykes workbench we had just gotten Josh.. Wednesday, Mom came down to babysit while I took Dana to her audiology appointment.. He was asleep when she got there. She said that when he woke up, he looked at her kind a blearily, then crawled into her lap and put his head on her shoulder.. Normally, when I've left him with her and he's woken up like that, he's screamed or cried almost non-stop until I got home.. He ate lunch with her and played with her until I returned. She said he'd take her hand and put it on the tools so that she could help him with the workbench.. Good non-verbal communication IMO.. Thursday, his old OT and new ST came for a tandem visit.. He was so calm, and he signed more for them as they blew bubbles and played games with him. Pam kept saying she can see such a difference in him, which was good to hear from her. His speech therapist wants us to implement PECS and some other augmentative language system that she's going to show us next time she comes out.. I'm just so encouraged by the comments made to me about Josh's behaviour by my mom and his therapists.. *I* see a change in him, and I'm glad that they are too (not just projecting my wants on to him). And, as I posted earlier, we also got our first solid BM from him in all his 2 years of life... He's run the range from diarrhea to really soft, foul BM's since birth, sometimes with, sometimes without blood.. The last few diapers I've changed have been normal consistancy and I'm SOO happy! And today... He's was so good. He's was stimming a little more today than he had been this week but that's ok.. He's still playing with me and Dana and signing when he wants more of something.. He's laughing and clapping his hands.. I'm just so happy to see positive things happening to him.. Thought I'd share.. I think my favorite improvement that we've seen in Brett is his ability to interact with other kids. In September, Brett couldn't recognize his 4 siblings. Now he tries to say their names, loves to play chase and hide-n-seek with them, and will grab their hands to play ring-around-the-rosie! I never thought I'd be so thrilled to see a child play with his siblings- it's wonderful! I'm so glad that Josh is improving! Sue
