Guest guest
If you have these symptoms you should have small protein based snacks--it works for me I am 2.5 yrs post-op and I have had the same symptoms. I keep Atkins almond brownie protein bars in my purse and eat one any time I get jittery--I am planning to get pregnant in November My typical day 6am protein bar 930 breakfast 1230 lunch 330 snack--usually string cheese 730 dinner water throughout the day Let me know if this helps Aimee Lacour son RN Bariatric Surgery Sequoia Hospital 170 Alameda de las Pulgas Rm 110 Redwood City, CA 94062 Tel Fax Will this make me a high risk pregnancy? Hi. I haven't posted much as I'm not pregnant yet - still trying to work out a few issues from my surgery before getting pregnant. One of my issues - hte heartburn/acid reflux one, seems to finally be getting better. I had an EGD done on Tuesday and the doctor couldn't find anything wrong, so hopefully I'll be able to get off my meds soon...he did say that I could take prevacid/nexium while I was pregnant, but he doesn't want me to take it in the 1st trimester. Anyway, the reason for this post is that I've been experiencing some symptoms of hypoglycemia recently - I get jittery, lightheaded and I start to sweat - which all goes away after I eat something with sugar in it. I looked up some information on hypoglycemia on webmd.com and sure enough, it says that some people who have had their stomach reduced, become hypoglycemic. What I'm wondering is, if this is true, will that make me be a high risk pregnancy when I do get pregnant? Has anyone else experienced this since their surgery? I'm really starting to get concerned about this. Thanks! Guest guest
Tracey First let me say Good luck with everything!! I am 26w3d prego and have hypoglocemia (sp?). I have been on bedrest since about 11 weeks. I didnt have any symptoms before pregnancy. Now with my pregnancy, I literally can't do anything without my sugar dropping REALLY LOW!! I monitor my blood sugar 4 times a day to make sure it stays above 80. I am considered High Risk but I started out that way because my last pregnancy was High risk due to gestational diabetes (the exact opposite)! I have been monitored very closely (every 2 weeks) and the baby is doing wonderful! I am pretty much the one my doc is worried about! As I understand it She is pretty much taking all my nutrients and causing my blood sugar to drop! I have been to a nutritionist and my blood sugar has gone up drastically since the visit!! Basically with my RNY I mainly ate PROTEIN PROTEIN PROTEIN with little carbs! Well the dietician has put me on a very mixed diet and tons of calories!! My blood sugar still drops when I do anything but at least it is staying in normal ranges when I am just laying around. My blood sugar before my diet changed would drop way below the normal (in the 50s and 60s).. I am not sure that you will be considered High risk. I think it all depends on your OB! The only thing I would suggest is maybe try seeing a nutritionist and change your diet before getting prego. See if there is anything that can be done before you get pregnant to make your levels in the norm.. because I know after the baby is there things will drop even lower!! Good luck to you!! Guest guest
I fainted in the beginning of my pregnancy due to low blood sugar / protein attacks. I had to remember to eat a little something at least every 2 hours and still have to do the same thing now or else I get super bitchy and jittery and feel oh so ill! I still had my ulcers after wls and was taking protonix at the beginning of my pregnancy but was switched to ranitidine/zantac because its an older medication and they know exactly what it will or won't do.
