PRESS RELEASE ***

Rally on the Steps of our State Capitol

PERTAINING TO THE PROPOSED REVISED ADMINISTRATIVE RULES FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION.

Recent developments:

·       A restraining order against ARTHUR E. ELLIS, Michigan

Superintendent of Public Instruction, and JOHN M. ENGLER, Governor of the

State of Michigan, has been issued.

·       A COMPLAINT FOR INJUNCTIVE AND EQUITABLE RELIEF, MOTION FOR

TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER AND FOR ORDER TO SHOW CAUSE has been filed.

·       The Senate has proposed a resolution. SENATOR GARY PETERS offered

the following resolution: SENATE RESOLUTION NUMBER 32.  A resolution to

urge the Michigan Department of Education to extend the period for public

comment and response on proposed new administrative rules on special

education services.

·       Information is on the CAUSE website

and information center dedicated to helping parents work with schools to

secure the educational success of children with disabilities and special

needs.

April 19, 2001 THURSDAY

8:30 am to 11:30 am

Judy Ford, rally organizer will introduce speaker:  Deborah Canja Isom,

esq.  Director of CAUSE as well as STATE REPRESENTATIVE(S) & others.

WE WILL BE WEARING WHITE T-SHIRTS AND WHITE RIBBONS IN SUPPORT OF OUR

CHILDREN, THEIR INNOCENCE AND PURITY.  WE WILL BE BRINGING OUR CHILDREN.  WE

WILL HAVE SIGNS AND PICTURES.  THE LEGISLATORS WILL BE SHOWING UP TO WORK AT

9:00 AM.  THERE WILL MOST LIKELY BE THOUSANDS IN ATTENDANCE.
