Sonja,

No question is ever silly. I have never done the transition from crib to

toddler bed with a child in the DBB, but I have done it with a few other

children. The youngest we made the transition at was 15 months (new baby came

at 16 months and the older one got kicked out). As long as the bed has a side

rail, your little guys can go whenever. The crib keeps them more contained, but

flying leaps off the toddler bed aren't as serious as those off the crib. I,

personally, like to make the transition at nap time first, then move onto nights

after a few days. I also try to make sure the toddler is situated in his new

bed about a month or so before the new baby comes home. (Getting ousted as baby

of the family is enough without loosing your bed to the stranger). I can't see

where the DBB would change that too much. But since I haven't done it yet (my

baby is very much a baby still) I will just shut my mouth so those with more

knowledge can say something. Good luck.

From Crib To Toddler Bed Question

Hello Friends,

First of all, let me apologize if this question has been asked a

million times. But I am a first time mom here and I have lots of

questions, especially with my son having Clubfoot. At what age does

a child usually change from a crib to a toddler bed? AND does

having Clubfoot prolong this transition? My son is only 15 months

right now, but we hope to have another baby within the next year and

I am wondering if our son will be old enough to sleep in a big boy

bed by then. I guess my question specially is, with the DBB on, how

do your children do in their toddler beds? And at what age did they

make the change?

Thank you in advance,

Sonja

You might consider using a mattress flat on the floor rather than up on a frame

so they can get in and out of easily and there is no fall risk. Keep in mind

when you switch to a bed too early, the baby has the mobility (but no common

sense) to get in to some serious trouble should he/she get up in the night while

the parents sleep.

I didn't read the other responses - so sorry if I'm being

redundant. We didn't go the toddler bed route. My sil had

mentioned how her son was constantly banging into the sides because

it seemed to small for him (very soon after the transition) and he

seemed so uncomfortable. Hearing that, we decided to take our spare

bed (full size) and put the angel guards on each side. We figured

if our nephew who didn't have the DBB to contend with quickly

outgrew the toddler bed, our DBB clad fellow would outgrow it even

quicker. We made the transition when Zach was 2 years 3 months - we

had a second on the way a few months after that. We had always

heard to make the transition well before the second is born so there

isn't any problems with " You're giving MY bed to him/her? " I

remember Zach's bar getting caught on the angelguard rail when he

would flip over and then he would yank it off his foot - I took his

comforter and laid it on top of it, and didn't have any more

problems. Also, we still don't use the comforter or big blankets

(that fit the bed) because it seems to me he would have great

difficulty rolling over. We use the comforter and receiving

blankets that we used in his crib. This way, he can roll over

without any problem. Good luck! I was a first time mom too when we

made the switch and I remember thinking it was going to be a huge

fiasco and it went very very well.
