Guest guest
TO ALL RSS/SGA PARENTS: Salem, on behalf of the MAGIC Foundation, writes the following: Dr. Madeleine Harbison has asked that I send out the following notification. Dr Harbison will officially leave Weill Cornell Medical College in the near future. Her group, headed by Dr. I. New, shall stay in New York City and move up the street about 30 blocks to Mt. Sinai (located at 5th Ave. and 98th Street). Dr. New will direct a new division within Pediatrics. Her division will work closely with Dr. Rappaport's Division of Peds. Endo. but will not be part of it. They have not yet decided on the name of their new division. Dr. Harbison will continue in Dr. New's group as an academic-full-time Asst. Prof. of Pediatrics, with her academic appointment moving from Cornell to New York University. They expect to be seeing patients at Mt. Sinai by mid May. In order to accomplish the move effectively, Dr Harbison will have to cancel as many patients as she can between now and their start up at Mt. Sinai. What does this mean for all of you? * Don't panic. * This is a GOOD thing for Dr. H and for all of us. * Be as patient as possible during the down time and then her up- start time again. If you have an appointment scheduled with Dr. Harbison in her current NYPH system between now and mid May, it is likely that her office will attempt to reschedule that apt.for some time after mid May. All Dr. Harbison's patients who have future appointments scheduled to see her at Cornell will receive a letter from NYPH containing forms for release of your/your child's medical records. Keep in mind that record gathering will be much more efficient and inclusive if done BEFORE she leaves Cornell. It is VERY important for you to have an appointment scheduled in Dr. H's current NYPH system for sometime after mid May so that you will be in the first wave of patients to get their letters containing release forms. These forms will instruct NYPH-Cornell to transfer copies of the child's medical records to Mt. Sinai (MSSM). For these instructions to be valid, they must be signed by a parent or legal guardian. If your child is to remain in Dr. H's care or if you want her to be retain control of your child's data for your availability and for her research, it is important for you to sign and date these forms, to make a copy for your records and to return them ASAP . Yadira, Dr. H's beloved and awesome office manager, will be moving with them to Mt. Sinai (huge sigh of relief). She is in charge of the scheduling process. Dr. Harbison suggests that all patient expecting to be seen in NY in the future should make sure they have an apt in the Cornell schedule even if it is a " dummy " apt. For example, even though and I were not going to go to New York because of the convention, I am setting up an appointment for in early July with Dr. Harbison at her old hospital. If you have already incurred non-refundable expenses such as non- refundable airline tickets related to apts scheduled between now and early August, I recommend that you contact Yadira at or yam2002@... and discuss this with her. If you have apts in this time period and have not made non-refundable purchases, I would recommend that you NOT make inflexible arrangements. Yadira will be melding the NYPH appointment schedule with the Mt. Sinai appointment system. Clearly she can not guarantee same day/same time. This is a very time-consuming and difficult process. Yadira will be doing her best to get things up and running as soon as possible. They really ask for your patience. Dr. Harbison feels that there will be advantages to being at Mt. Sinai. For example they have the strongest clinical genetics department in New York, and probably the tri state area. Their genetics dept. has both clinical and research laboratory facilities that were not available at Cornell. Hopefully there will be a better waiting room as well (HA!). Dr. Harbison will again be at the convention this July, and will see families as always. You must be registered for the convention already before we can schedule you a visit time, but this may prove to be an easier way for you to see her in the meantime. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me () directly at magicrss@..., so that we don't overwhelm the phone system in Dr. H's office.
