Guest guest
OMG, that is ssooo terribly sad. These kids heart are all i can think about. My Mom was obese and ended up having an emergecy tracheatomy (sp) so she could breath but she still satyed at about 350 and died at 67 from a heart attach, the first and only one she had. I am still overweight but Thank God for my surgery I lsot 140 pounds. I was never obese though until I developed thyroid problems in my 20's. i was never over 180 pounds before that and I thought that was fat for me. So I really worry about kids and their weights now. My daughter is a good size at 5 years old and 50 pounds even, my son is a normal sixe at 8 weighing 62 pounds but his identical twin is 20 pounds heavier at 82 and it really bothers me, he is not really fat but he has a little belly going and it scares me. he is active, thank God, but I still worry about him. i try to keep healthy things in the house for snacks but hubby likes junk and brings it home and leaves it around for the kids even after I ahve told him a hundred times not to. They get some junk but not daily for sure.

Guest guest
We know this lady who actually doubled the amount of formula powder she put in her babies bottles so she wouldn't bother them and with waking up in the middle of the night. I swear the kid looked like a freaking manatee. Our friends son is 43 pounds at 2 years old. My son is 4 and weighs 43 pounds!! The kids belly completely covers over his penis and he walks slouched forward.....He goes into the fridge by himself and eats and eats.....he also now pulls the chair up to the cabinets and will get boxes of food and eat. They don't do anything about it. I don't understand why people expect parenting to be an easy job.......! Chrystal Wife to Jace - together 6 Years! Happy Mommy to - 4 Years Old! Guest guest
Robin, Maybe the child had a glandular problem or thyroid problem or other medical condition. Maybe the parents are to blame. or maybe not. Ferguson Rasley mailto:dferguson@... Guest guest
Robin, I know that there are medical reasons for why some children are overweight but for those who have no excuse, it really does bother me that the parents don't realize until it is too late and when they hit high school, the kids finally want to do something because they see what it is doing to them socially. Lets just hope that this child did have a problem and these parents aren't bringing another child into the world while dismissing the other. Guest guest
I have often wondered why a child or baby gets so big...when we as the parents control what they eat at that young of an age. I understand how it happens to school age kids, because they see and get other food at school and can grab what they want at home. I mean they can physically get it fot themselves where a baby or small child cannot. That is so sad. I feel sorry for the baby. Guest guest
Robin... From personal experience. my mother told me that when i was young, she would shove a cookie in my mouth to keep me quite. She didn't want me to make too much noise and bother my dad, she said. I was too young, b/c I do not remember this. But I know in later years it set up bad eatting habits. I do remember after school snacking on a whole bag or chips ahoy...mindless eatting. that is how I got into the shape I was in. which later in life, look where I am....post WLS. It may be a factor in family genes down the line, but bad habits too. And also the fact of not being bothered with the kid (me). It was easier on my parents, I think. Sad but true. I limit my kids snacks, meals, etc. Healthy food first....then a limited snack. Sometimes I think i am depriving them of 'the good stuff'. But my kids are thin and healthy. Just my input! I have a few ideas and thoughts... Noah drinks about 40 oz of whole milk a day... which is most of his nutrtion... and some yogert, cereal in the am, fruit, and a veggie/meat dinner. He only eats pureed at the moment... Preemie issue.. ugh! Anyhow... People keep saying... give him some Juice... It it is hot outside.. I bring an ICE COLD water in his bottle... for thirst issues. My personal issues with Juices are they are all sugar and empty calories and not filling. I rather give Noah some apple sauce then apple juice. Now.. on to the other " juices " .. aka Juicy Juice... all sugars!!! oopss.. sorry 10% real fruit juice... I think we are conditioning our children for SWEET stuff and Carby stuff with the pushing of Juices. I also think that white bread is evil.. LOL On to " snacks " . Some people insist on feeding thier kids a snack between breakfast and lunch and lunch and dinner. These " snacks " I have seen from various children I used to babysit and people I know as " Crackers, a cookie, something carby and crunchy " I think IF the child is truly hungry...and asking for a snack.. offer fruit and some cheese... or something along those lines.. Bottom line.. your kids can't eat bad foods IF there are no bad foods in the house. One must create as Dr Phil sayes.. " a NO Fail environment " If the only snack food is crunchy veggies and fruits... .. one can't stuff themselves with chips or pretzels.. LOL I think these kids Breakfast cereals are horrible... sugar and more sugar.. While some young children do not burn calories as they should.. and there are medical conditions that cause childhood obesity... the majority of the cause can be found in the Fridge and Cabinets. - Mommy to: Noah - 10/14/02 - 31 weeker - 3lbs 11 oz edd November 18th http://www.love-my-kids.com
Guest guest
Yeah....we have junk in the house too. tempting for me as well. But we have to hid the junk and it is delt to the kids as we want them to have it. Both kids are very active and ....sounds to me they are thin/small for their ages compared to some posts i have read here. Doctors have asked about my daughters weight, but she has always been thin and tall like her dad....al legs. :-) My daughter is 8 and weighs 49 pounds and my son is 5 and weights 38 pounds. He has a more stalky build and doesn't look as thin as my daughter. She can still wear size 5T shorts...( but I buy her 6x alot too) but hard to find pants that are long enough and fit her in the waist. She is so thin, but doesn't look unhealthy, just runs on her dads side of the family. Shirst for her are another story, size 10-12. A little big on her, but long enough to cover her belly, she is sooo tall. It she wears 7-8 and raises her arms to stretch her belly shows. Her shirts look to short on her and doesn't look evened out. Son is in 5T also. He is a little on the shorter side also an ,like I said, stalky build. Sharon in GA Open RNY 04/01 ttc again! Guest guest
I thought Juicy Juice was 100 percent real juice???
Guest guest
I agree! We get so much juice from WIC, but I don't allow my kids to drink it. They take a children's multi vit. and a chewable vit. C and I donate the juice to my moms church for communion. I heard of so many kids having cavities before the age of four and the dentist told me it was because they are getting juice in their bottles instead of water. People keep saying... give him some Juice... It it is hot outside.. I bring an ICE COLD water in his bottle... for thirst issues.
