Guest guest
Hi all. As I don't not often post because at the moment we are only dairy free (taking things slow and reading a TON!) I have a question for you experts that I need help with. My son was running a fever and had congestion. The doctor put him on Vantin which he has had before. When the fever did not go away we took him back to the doctor and he had a pus pocket on his throat. They pricked his finger (LOTS of fun) to determine if viral but didn't get enough. I didn't let them prick it again so they decided to put him on a 2nd antibiotic called Cleocin-spells like rotten eggs flavored with cherry flavor to take away from the taste. Since both of these he has been TANTRUMMING at the drop of a hat, crying, full blown tantrum-throwing things and himself. Called the doctor and OF COURSE they say that there should be no behavior reaction to these antibiotics.....what do they know!!! So my question finally-have any of you experienced this? Maybe he has a stomach ache-belly ache and cannot tell me? What should I do????? __________________________________________________

Guest guest
I don't know about those specific antibiotics but my son had a very violent reaction to erythromycin. In fact it was the only time he has ever been really violent. We think it caused very bad stomach pain which he expressed by throwing things and hitting (his mother mostly). He also developed a rash the next day. We called the Dr. and asked to have it changed. They changed it to augmenten, I think, which he had taken many time in the past. Our son has been diagnosed with yeast overgrowth which we attribute to the long periods he was on antibiotics when he was having ear infections. His old Dr would prescribe antibiotics almost every time we went to see him. (That is why he is our old Dr.) We didn't know then about the harm they can cause. IMHO, a finger prick to determine if the antibiotics are really needed is far less harmful than taking antibiotics that are not needed. Also, anytime you are given antibiotics, I would ask the doctor for a probiotic to take at the same time. Just my $.02 Here is a link to a description of Cleocin: http://health.yahoo.com/health/drugs_tree/medication_or_drug/0043/ the side effects include: SIDE EFFECTS Call your doctor right away if you have any of these side effects: Severe stomach pain Severe or bloody diarrhea Fever and sore throat Unusual bleeding Skin rash or itching If you have problems with these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor. Nausea and vomiting Mild stomach cramps Mild diarrhea off topic-antibiotics Hi all. As I don't not often post because at the moment we are only dairy free (taking things slow and reading a TON!)
