Guest guest
I have a fairly extensive library of materials I have either acquired from federal and other public sources or brochures I have developed to compliment stress management workshops that are responsive to the cultural nuances of the community I work – families in distress and outside of their natural cultural support system. I use these same materials for training I conduct for personnel working in mental health and domestic violence support groups targeting Hispanic immigrants and migrant families. Mental health illnesses and stress factors that precipitate domestic violence among migrant families are complex and minimally understood by professionals. Training, reference materials and intervention strategies cannot be reduced to brief “what have you’s” to pas out to participants. Sorry for being so blunt but mental health support for immigrants and migrants particularly those impacted by the added burden of violence, domestic or otherwise, requires skill, competency and resources of the highest quality. I appeal to the person issuing the request to review the APA guidelines relative to ethical and cultural responsive standards for those engaging in any mental health intervention with culturally diverse populations. Guest guest
Hello, Migrant Health Promotion has a Promotora program model and materials called Salud Para Todos, which train farmworkers educate their peers and offer support around issues related to mental health, stress, domestic violence, substance abuse, child abuse, sexual abuse and gangs. Currently, the program is running in Tennessee, California, Maine, and Missouri. Please feel free to check out the materials on our website www.migranthealth.org or to contact me. Terry Reilly Health Center in Idaho has also produced health education materials related to mental health and farmworkers. Tori Booker Associate Director Migrant Health Promotion 224 W. Guest guest
Our farmworker mental health program has produced some Spanish language videos and radiostories that we sell at a resonable price to other social service agencies. Let me know if you're interested in a doing discussions with farmworker utilizing a media format. I have found that with the low literacy level it's more impactful to do discussion and watch or listen to something.
