Guest guest
Hello, My son is 10 months old, and only sleeping with the DBB for naps and at night. I am curious how other people handle having a babysitter. Do you put the DBB on before you leave? Do you try to train your babysitters? Just curious. Thanks for your input. Guest guest
Kara, Owen is also in the brace for nights and naps which equals 14 hours. We usually put him into pajamas and brace at about 7pm and he wears it for 12 hours until morning. When Owen was younger, I was more comfortable putting him into the brace myself before we left - even if it was a few hours early as it was easier than waking him when we got home to put the brace on him then. Now that Owen is so used to his routine, I'm comfortable with letting the sitter put his brace on him at bedtime - she does a great job with it! Guest guest
Kara, Since both my husband and I work many nights and weekends I have lots of experience in this area. I have a pool of sitters who all do a great job of putting on the brace. I'll try to list the steps which have made this successful for us: - mark the strap clearly at the hole you are now using for the buckle. I different use colors as he grows, so that I can tell them which color line to use for the buckle. - Introduce the brace as you introduce everything else about your child's bedtime routine. If it sounds like a natural part of life as you explain it, they tend to take it in stride. (I give a brief explanation of why he wears it, how important it is, and say it works like a retainer, but for your feet.) - I actually put the brace on as I'm explaining it the first time. I show them how tight I pull the laces, etc. so that they have a feel for what is important to watch out for while they do it. Then, I often have them do it once while I watch. I think it really helps for them to see how easy it is for me to do, and how relaxed Zeke is while we put on the shoes. I tell them a few checks to make sure the brace is on correctly (hold the foot while pulling up on his knee, if his toes move much, it's too loose) - The first couple of times a sitter goes it alone, I always check the brace when I get home (fortunately Zeke will fall back to sleep at a moment's notice)and adjust as necessary; I write down how they look (great! or, laces need to be tighter, etc.) and then give the sitter feedback the next time. Every sitter has gotten the hang of it quickly. One side benefit of this is that I think each sitter feels like they are participating in the well-being of Zeke's life in a significant way. (which they do, in more ways than just the brace... but it makes this more conscious for them) Caroline, mom to Zeke, 23 mos. bcf > > Hello, > > My son is 10 months old, and only sleeping with the DBB for naps and > at night.
