Hi ladies,

I have been reading your posts. I was wondering when we were all young like

our children are, I imagine we all did these things,(I know I did) and we and

our parents never thought a thing about it. We were just enjoying being

kids. At times it seems like everything our children do today is analyzed as

stemming or inappropriate play. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, maybe they are

just being kids, like we were. Just my 2 cents.

My 3 yr old mildly autistic son is doing something wierd and I want to know

if anyone else has seen this and is this a stim?

It began with him kissing a glass door or window, leaving spit behind and

he takes his finger and draws circles in it. Sorry if this is gross but we

are used to it (its a little embarassing when he does it in a public place

like a store though).

Now, he points his finger, and is frequently seen " drawing " in the air. I

remember doing this some as a kid - I enjoyed practicing making letters in

the air. Is this an autisic thing, and if so, could its emergence mean that

there is something in his diet that is causing it?

My son is 5 and used to do things like that and every once in awhile he'll do

it again. It's so hard to distinguish all the time if it's related to their

autism or if it's a normal child-like thing. I think since your child is

only 3 that it is probaly just something that is age appropriate. I see my

friends kids who are NT doing alot worse than that. It's hard to seperate

the two but I think some kids act that way and some don't.

I know I didn't help much but I wouldn't worry about it.

I think if he does it A LOT then you might have problem. Otherwise, its

probably ok. Poor baby...I watch her like a hawk! Hugs, H, mom to 3

yrs, PDD; and 23 months
