Guest guest
Glad to see you post about reactive hypoglycemia, Sheila...What everyone is describing symptomatically makes alot of sense to me (of course, I have been a pediatric diabetes nurse for 10yrs)...You described it to a tee in a clear and easy manner. A few yrs ago, I had a glucose tolerance test due to symptoms of hypoglycemia. This was when I was very overweight. They took my blood sugar first...it was high normal..gave me the gazillion grams of carbs...and watched my blood sugar plummet to extremely low levels within the two hrs...of course I was very symptomatic and had to eat in order to feel well enough to drive home... Point is, insulin sensitivity can be a precursor to diabetes...whether gestational or otherwise. I am wondering if you ladies have been told you are diabetic? And even though you have lost weight through WLS, I wonder if having the baby's nutritional/metabolic needs makes some people prone to getting diabetic type symptoms in pregnancy as we gain weight, eat differently/more during pregnancy, etc... Just random thoughts...Someone should do a study if they haven't already, lol. Guest guest
thank you ! Alot of the time, I think I may explain something too technical, but I try to remember not everyone is in the med profession! I commend you for your peds interest. That is one area I couldn't work! I did ER for 13 years and decided on a break from it and switched to OB/NICU. Now I am just working PRN in 2 hospitals (2 states actually). One in ER and the other L&D. lol
