Guest guest
Hi, Carmen About candida - it seems to be another one of those ailments that conventional medicine does not acknowledge, or has much to say about, in my experience anyway. What are your symptoms? What have mainstream doctors suggested? I presume you have run across the book by Cook on Candida. There are strong prescription anti-fungal meds. I have not wanted to take them because I frequently get side-effects from meds. I did go to a doctor who specialized in allergies and chemical sensitivities many years ago. Candida was one of her big emphases. She had a whole protocol of diet, and in addition she recommended an antifungal put out by Paddock Laboratories called Nystatin, in the 150,000,000 units dose. She recommened taking it dissolved in water, and said it did not get absorbed by the body, but only worked locally in the intestines. I used it for a while, am not sure if it helped or not, was not sure that candida was my problem, and finally decided to stop being treated by her because following all her suggestions and testing was very time consuming, expensive, and I was not sure it was going down the right path. Mayo Clinic is doing some work to tie unresponsive, chronic sinusitis to fungal issues - either infection or allergic sensitivity, can't remember right now. I have not had the energy to pursue that question, although Candida as a source of unexplained health issues still interests me. I would love to hear any one's experience with candida. Guest guest
Have you taken acidophilus for the Candida? It seems to help me a lot, I am on a somewhat high dose. Carmen, Have you tried anti-fungal meds? They work quickly and well. They're probably your best bet. Guest guest
Duh, sorry I didn't see the original post that mentioned acidophilus. I take 6 billion live cells per day, what is your dose? I have symptoms of a yeast infection on a lower dose. Guest guest
I have tried nystatin and other medications bu5t, I alos have many side effects that make me stop taking it. I have gone to a clinic that has EDS testing and it shows that I have candida in my system. I have taken many supplements from them and have improved some. The Dr. at the clinic stated that many of my health issues could be caused from the candida, fatigue, sinus and allergy problems, bowel and bladder problems. I sure would like to rid myself of all of it. z39z@... wrote:Hi, Carmen About candida - it seems to be another one of those ailments that conventional medicine does not acknowledge, or has much to say about, in my experience anyway. Guest guest
Yes, that's a good one, I've taken it before. I do want to stress that if I take less, I have yeast overgrowth issues. Perhaps others who are very symptomatic might need even more (I take twice as much if I'm having a problem). Guest guest
I took Nystatin for quite a while for gut candida as I had a lot of bloating - I had read a book called the Yeast Connection. The doc didn't believe in it but said it wouldn't hurt to try it as it just goes in one end and out the other. Also there were other things to do such as taking acidophillis and avoiding sugar as the yeast feeds on it. But in the end I think it made the bloating worse. Years later when I had cardiac problems I was put on statins like Lipitor and the same things happened (Icouldn't tolerate any of the statins) - only then did it click that Nystatin was a statin also (and by the way aren't we mitoers supposed to avoid statins as they increase CK muscle pain etc?) I don't know ...----- Original Message -----
Guest guest
Perhaps others have mentioned this, but statin drugs interfere with cholesterol metabolism, and most if not all statins deplete the amount of CoQ10 in the body. Merck, who developed the first statin drug, got a patent to put CoQ10 in with their statin drug, but decided not to market it that way due to cost. In effect, statin drugs can cause mitochondrial damage (that's a reason doctors tend to do liver panels on patients on long term statin use). I'm not a medical doctor, etc. Statins have not been shown to decrease the incidence of heart attacks...
