Guest guest
Helen, I would call your doc first thing Monday morning. My cousin had a hernia when she was preagnant and her doc decided not to do anything about it. She was so missurable. Your doc might do something about it. Keep me posted. ;-) D. Guest guest
I was lying on the bed the other day and noticed a knot sticking up out of my stomach about 4 inches above my navel. It was kinda hard but i was able to move it around. But now when i do very much activity the area around the knot hurts. I was wondering if anyone knew if this was a hernia and if i should call my doc about it. Any help is appreciated thanks helen
Guest guest
Hi Helen, It sounds like a hernia to me also. I have had an umbilical hernia since before my WLS. When I started exercising it really started to hurt, now it seems to be pretty tender. I would have it checked by your physician. Some say they can take care of it while you're pregnant and others say you must wait until after the baby is born. Take Care. Dianne WLS 04-14-03 411/255/??? Guest guest
Sounds like a hernie to me but don't be trying to move it around it will only irritate it. I had one that would move from side to side on either side of my navel from when I had gallbladder surgery and they fixed that one when I had WLS and now I have a big one near the uppper part of my incision that needs fixing. I would call your doc just to ahve them look at it. there is nothing they can do while you are pregnant. i was scheduled for surgery for this one when I found out I was prego. Guest guest
I too have a hernia in the same spot. It wasnt as noticable in the beginning, but now that this little girl is getting bigger you can really see it. It doesnt bother me-pain wise-I dont like the way it looks though. I too was about to have it repaired and my tummy tuck when I found out I was pregnant. My doc says we are to wait until after the bab to fix it. I agree with the other posts, if you are having pain, call your doc.
Guest guest
Hernias are definitely nothing to mess around with. Most often, they are just irritating and can wait to be dealt with until after the baby. However, you can occasionally get some twisting of your innards and infection, even gangrene. (Ah, the wonders of doing research on webmd.com) Go have it checked out now. You'll feel better. Incidentally, I have a hernia or two developing as well. What a timely topic... They are incredibly annoying and mildly painful with certain movements. I have a call in to my OB/GYN. I don't know that I'll go with my WLS doc for the hernia repair. He did my VBG and my gall bladder removal and I'm not sure that completely trust that his technique would repair the hernias. Anyone else feel that way? Guest guest
Well, in my case (for hernia repair) I won't be returning to BTC because 1) my surgeon isn't even there anymore (no idea why) and 2) I had a horrible experience with coming out of surgery and EXTREME panic attacks from them giving me anti nautia (sp) meds after surgery...and ignoring me when I told them something was horribly wrong. I will definitely get mine repaired somewhere else. Most likely at the University of Michigan hospital or the other main hospital here. I'd like to also have my tummy tuck at same time but need to get it approved by insurance. I do have a nice size panis..and after baby is born..I'm sure it will hang even lower. And I'm on the lower side of the people who have had the surgery (weight wise) so I'm at least glad that I have what I have..and nothing much worse.
