I wanted to find out if anyone had any suggestions about where I can

find socks with the grips on the bottom. I've checked several

different stores, and haven't had much luck.

I also wanted to see if the grips really do have an impact on how the

feet stay in the shoes and if they are really needed.

Finally, I'm not sure what other parents have done to cover their

baby's toes while in the casts, but I've found that 'peds' are

awesome. Just in case you're not familiar with peds, they are

essentially socks made to only cover your toes. They are actually

made for women, but I have found that they fit really well over the

casts, look as much like 'normal' socks as possible, stay on the

casts really well, and keep baby's toes nice and warm. And the best

thing is that moms can wear them if they wear slides in the summer

and don't want to have their socks show.

Gillette did send us home with some hand knitted covers, but we found

they slipped off very easily, and just didn't match as well as the

peds.

Old Navy, The Childrens Place, Gymboree and The Gap all have socks with

the grippers on the bottom. The best for your buck is Old Navy. I think

it is 6 pairs for $10.00. If you don't have any of these stores near you,

you can purchase them online.

Old Navy and Gap stores have the turn cuff socks with the grippers on the

bottom. I prefer Old Navy because they are a little cheaper (8 pairs for

$10.00).

Thanks! I love Old Navy! I didn't look for socks there, but will

have to. They seem to have the best stuff at the most reasonable

prices, and most of their pants have snaps.

Some people swear by the gripper socks, I didn't find they made a difference.

However, I bought some at Wal-Mart once.

Ya, just don't go to Baby Gap! Their socks must be made out of gold.

lol, 's old Navy charges her $10 for 6 pairs, your old Navy charges

you $10 for 8 pairs, and my old Navy charges me $10 for 7 pairs. That's

just weird! I'd think there would be some consistency but apparently

not. I do like the old navy socks though. Good colors!

I have found that Darbi can still wear her 0-6mo socks with the shoes. If

she wore them without shoes, they'd slip off because her feet are

technically too big for them. But they work great still with the brace. Go

figure...

Hi ,

I get socks for my daughter at The Childrens Place (www.childrensplace.com).

They have their company name and size on the bottom of the sock which work as

grippers.

From my experience, the grippers do help the feet stay in place especially when

they are at a mobile age - this I only write from experience. I've tried

Wal-Mart, Baby Gap, Target - the only success I have found is The Children's

Place. As for their clothes - with snaps, not much of a selection.

As for covering the casts when my daughter was younger, I used ankle socks that

were for an older child.

Take care,

Thanks for mentioning Gymboree. I wasn't aware that they sold socks - let alone

I've not been in one yet.

I liked the Gap socks, however, Lhea's a chunker, so they were kinda snug on her

leg. I have found that The Childrens Place worked the best for the chunkers.

I found them on sale for 8 for $10, regularly 8 for $11.50. And

they had some that weren't white, which is even better.

100% cotton has no elasticity... I doubt they're even

available. Especially for babies. The Old Navy socks with the

grippers on the bottom are what we use, we love them. They're 7 for

$10 and have lots of colors to choose from. They aren't 100% cotton

however, but like I said if they were they wouldn't be of much use

anyway. They'd just fall down.

You want a sock with a nice tight weave. Loosely woven socks make

those sock impressions on the tops of their feet (we've all

experienced this with socks I'm sure) and don't feel good at

all. Every time I use that kind of sock on Darbi she tells me her

feet hurt and when I take them off I can see the impressions.

Baby Gap and Gymboree also make nice gripper socks with tight

weave. I think however the old navy ones are the cheapest of this

variety. I have spent $40 total on socks for Darbi this whole time

(she's 2.5yo) and she's actually able to wear her 0-6mo socks still

in her shoes (although not with regular shoes, they don't fit well

for that - fall down - too small). I don't think one really *needs*

14 pairs of socks at a time but I've found that with baby socks...

they get lost in the wash a lot and since she's a girl I wanted lots

of colors to choose from. So I spent $20 both times just because I

wanted to. Still, in 2.5y... not bad cost wise.

I think what he meant by 100% cotton is what I was talking about w/

Naomi - 100% cotton in the fibers that make up the sock, not including

the elastic. Naomi, in all her PhD glory ;^), found out that if there

are other non-cotton fibers that make up more than 5% then the

manufacturer has to list it. I know, way more than anyone really

wanted to know. But anyway, I think the main thing is that if your

child has stinky feet, choosing socks w/ higher cotton content will

help. Other synthetic fibers like acrylic and polyester trap the

moisture and keep it next to the skin, making the foot more stinky.

Kori's and the other's suggestions about the socks are right on, I

think it is more important to get the socks with grippers on the

bottom than to worry about the fiber content unless your child has

excessively stinky feet.

(P.S. Kori and Naomi, I think this is a clear indicator that we should

just not put in the tip I had in the Dobbs' brace info about 100%

cotton socks - it's just way too involved.)
