What are

> your suggestions for those social/eating out situations?

',

I am sorry to hear this is such a struggle for you! My little guy is

only 3, and is pretty oblivious to what others are eating, so our

situation is a little easier. However, I have resigned myself to

bringing food for Brett wherever we go. (Except SOME fast food

places where I know the fries are OK...) I have some great little

Tupperware divided plates with lids that work great. The best " take-

along " meal for Brett is peanut butter on gfcf crackers, gfcf

pretzels or chips, and fruit. I order him a drink from the

restaurant. If appearances are a problem to your son, you can always

ask for an empty plate and put your own food on it.

As far as pot-luck type things, I always make a lot of something that

Brett can eat, such as fruit salad or the graham crackers in Miss

Roben's catalog, and then we have something to share with the group.

It's not such a stigma to eat " special " foods if others are eating it

too! Potato chips and Fritos are also good " typical " foods that he

can share. The way I see it, he's different enough already- anything

I can do to make him more " the same " is a good thing.

Good luck! The diet is a lot of work, but worth it! (See my earlier

post about good news!) :-)

Sorry to tell you but yes you will have to take food from home almost every

where you go. It's very difficult at first but if your child responds to the

diet and can behave appropriately while your at these functions then it's

well worth it. No more days of me chasing my son all over the place and

watching his every move to make sure he doesn't run out of the building or

into the road. All the energy that took out of me is now going to cooking

which is alot easier. I didn't do too many outings the first couple of

months because I couldn't handle it but it's been a year now and we all can

go out wherever we want now. Good luck

Hang in there ! It is so hard, I know! For us it is easier because she is

only 3 so people automatically ask...is it ok if she has??? But at 7 (your

son's age) they probably ask him or just assume! We've only been on the diet 5

weeks tomorrow but we take her food everywhere with us! I tell others (and

myself) that giving her g or c containing foods is like giving my baby LSD.

That really helps people be compliant! LOL! Whatever works! Keep us posted

ok? Hugs,

H, mom to 3 yrs, PDD; and 23 months

Oops, another question though: I took a new package of Hebrew National Beef

franks to a restaurant and asked them to microwave them and they wouldn't, even

though the pack was unopened. Anyone else experience this? What should I do?

Call ahead? Thanks in advance, H
