Hello. I'm , and my 13 yr old son has Down Syndrome, and over

the last year, I've realized that he has many of the symptoms

associated with autism spectrum disorder. I attended a DAN!

conference in Portland last year, and have started my son on the gfcf

diet. What I'm noticing, and otheres are noticing also!!, is a little

better speech -- more effort, and a little more eye contact, so I

think I'm on the right track.

I have concerns about food rotation being vegetarian (no meat, fish,

eggs) Potatoes, millet, legumes and rice, other than veggies are

pretty much it!!

Also, I'm ready to have some tests done, but don't really know which

direction to go here. I live in Oregon, and think I'd like a Dr. to

work with -- what do I do??? We can order the tests from Great Smokey

Labs, but as far as knowing specifically which tests are needed and

whether there are different interpretations for people who have

autism--I don't know....and am hoping to get some help from this group

and those who have done this and are familiar with what I'm trying to

learn. I get absolutely overwhelmed when I go on the internet for

information.

Does anyone have experience with the light and sound therapy?? Good

results??

I think that's enough to start with!! Oops...one more thing that

relevant... for blood work, it's vey difficult to get a vein in him

because of heart defect issues. I've heard of emla cream, but I've

also heard that it constricts the blood vessels as well, so could

actually interfere...He's has 5 heart surgeries! so has fear around

medical procedures. My lastest thought, and the one that I finally

felt comfortable with was to try one poke, and if we don't get it, to

leave and try again when enough time has passed. I don't want him to

be more traumatized and unco-operative. I have some concerns about

how often the blood work needs to be done, and what can be done with

finger pricks. He's never been immunized. I noticed after one of his

surgeries, around 3 yrs old, that he lost speech -- it was a very

difficult time with back to back surgeries, and at that time that's

what I thought it was due to. I don't know about the ingredients in

anesthesics, and have wondered about getting the list. So suggestions

and information are very welcome here too.

I'm aware of leaky gut syndrome, (and he's had the antibiotics!)and

have been giving him HMF Forte for awhile, (along with other

" drainage " remedies) but I'm pretty sure he still has a problem.

Sorry for this being so lengthy. Thanks for being here!!
