Guest guest
Hello everyone, I am new to this but I was on my WLS sight WOWSalsa and saw the link for this forum and decided to read a little. I was wondering if any of you all are preg with twins and how far out you are. How do you possibly eat enough to nourish two babies. Next week I am going to see a nutritionist and I am very high risk anyway so I will start every 2 week transvaginal ultrasounds to measure my cervix length. I am nervous. And on top of all of that I know I should be eating better than I am...Or should I say more than I am... Any one else out there in my boat? Guest guest
There is someone on this group that is rpego with twins names Toi and she is doing well with hers. A lady on my other group had twins a few months back and they were great too. I had twins pre-op and I was on a very strict diet and was scared they were not getting enough but the noutritionist assured me they were. I am currently 32 weeks with a single and the doc says pregnacy after WLS is almost like any other woman except for the eating and absortion things. They was us to eat the best we can and stay hydrated, take all the vitamins you normally take like your multi, calium, iron and b-12's and then add 800 mcg of folic acid to that and they also gave me a prenatal to take also on top of the others. ou should do fine but I know it is hard not to worry, I always worry. I was high risk for both my other pregnancies because of my weight and gestational diabetes but this time around I feel ssooo much better, I don't even have swollen hands and feet like usual, knock on wood. Good luck to you and I will have you in my prayers that all stays well for you and your babies. Youa re going to love being a twins mommy.... Guest guest
Hi , I'm Toi and currently 29 weeks pregnant with twin boy and girl. I had the same concerns as you and even cried thinking I was going to be ripping my babies off nutritionally. My OBGyn has been very proactive with my care and although he specializes in high-risk pregnancies, he has never considered me high-risk simply because of my WLS, which was in December 02. Of course I am considered " higher " risk because of twins, but that is true for all multiple pregnancies. Eating has been interesting to say the least, mostly because of my mind and the games it plays on me about eating too much. My doc is adamant about me consuming a lot of extra calories because of my malabsorption issues. The first question he asks me when he walks in the exam room is " how's your nutrition these days? " After loosing weight in the first trimester, I have finally gained 4 lbs above my pre-pregnancy weight and a total of 14 lbs all together. Considering that I am carrying twins, I'm happy for the amount. I don't sit down to regular, structured meals the way I use to. MOst days I feel like I always have something in my mouth between drinking 72-80 oz (I'm determined to keep myself extra hydrated to prevent pre- term labor), vitamins, and eating. I have 5-6 mini meals a day which could consist of a slice of whole wheat toast with cream cheese, a boiled egg, 1-2 oz of cheese, crackers, dry cereal, regular dinner, protein shake, etc. I still try to keep my meals heavier on the protein, but I do allow myself the freedom of carbs, since they are so essential to healthy fetal development. The mini meals also help me from getting too sick and feeling too full since the babies are getting so big. Our little boy goes from breech to transverse, sometimes a few times a day and everytime he moves to the transverse position, it puts a lot of pressure on my little pouch and pushes the food back into my esophogus. The less food I have in there at any one time, I've found to be better so I just eat smaller amounts more often. Take care of yourself, take your vitamins, and never be afraid to ask your OBGyn to check your blood levels often. Our little ones are measuring perfect, their placentas are looking and functioning at peak and I have not gained any body weight. Feel free to e-mail me privately if you would like.
