Hi Dianne,

A nurse that I work with had blood clots with one of her

pregnancies. I think it really depends on how large the clot is,

etc, as to whether they will treat it with IV or injected

medication. The injected medication can usually be taught to the pt

and can be done at home if the person is stable. It is called

heparin and is given in a tiny injection like insulin, under the

skin. The IV form of the heparin must be given in a medical setting

as it is a continuous drip and needs constant adjusting, bloodwork,

etc...

Once a clot is busted, they may give something called coumadin

(other name is warfarin) which is a blood thinner as well. It helps

prevent other clots, etc...

Wishing you well and hope all works out for you in this respect,

Hugs,

Hi Dianne,

I have blood clotting disorders (hyperhomocystein anemia and antiphospholipid

disorder) - but thankfully have not had a blood clot. I take Lovenox injections

2 times daily, 4mg of Folic Acid, and a baby aspirin every day - not to mention

high doses of B12 and B6.

I had to take the Lovenox injections after my WLS surgery too.

My doctor wants me to keep taking the injections for 2-3 months after the baby

is born.

I also see a high risk pregnancy OB/perinatologist....I have an olympic team of

doctors ha ha!

Good Luck to you!
